Kids’ measuring guide

Use the tips & visuals in this guide to make taking your child's body measurements easy-peasy.

Dont have a fabric tape measure? Use a shoelace or pant leg to measure. Then, lay it flat & use a ruler or tape measure to get a numerical measurement.

How to measure

  • Height

    Have your child stand in front of the fridge.Mark the top of the head with a magnet. Measure a straight line from floor to magnet.

  • Chest

    Have your child make airplane arms. Wrap tape measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping it level & snug.

  • Waist

    With your child bending to one side, measure the point where the waist flexes naturally. Keep the tape level & comfortably loose.

  • Hip

    Have your child stand like a tall tree with feet together. Measure a level line around the fullest part of the hips & seat.

  • Inseam

    Take a pair of pants that fit your child well. Measure along the seam from crotch to leg opening.

Have bought in several sizes; Runs small

We have been buying these shirts for several years now. My daughter (5'1"", 95"", 12yrs) wears a size 16 in this shirt. As another reviewer has mentioned, they run small and the length is short. The bottom is squared off, which makes me think they are designed to be worn either tucked in or loose (they don't look bad, but not not as neat). We tuck in (she wears a skirt), and they do tend to pull out frequently. However, we like the look, quality, and durability (for us, no ironing required, and I just throw them in the wash and dry on eco-heat with the rest of our clothes), and she likes the fit - she is thin and the other shirts hang on her, width-wise. I am currently ordering our 4th size of these in three years. For reference, in her standard clothing (Carter's/The Children's Place) her tops are size 14. She wears a women's small dress - for length reasons as she seems to have long legs and we wear below the knee).

Poor change in the way the collar is made

We have been wearing these for years. This year, the collar seems like it's made out of crepe paper. It crinkles up and does not sit nicely out of the wash. No one has time to be ironing collars!

Wish it was longer

Overall quality is fine, but our uniform policy requires that shirts be tucked in, and the shirt is too short to easily stay tucked in. A bigger size is too big in the shoulder/sleeve.
