Q: why is it smaller than megatron

  • A: The SS series 86 Megatron and Optimus (which shares a base mold with these battle damage variants) are designed with animation design and scale accuracy in mind so Megatron is a bit bigger and taller due to that being the case in G1 show and movie as well

Cheaper than therapy

You know how a therapist might use a doll/action figure and ask you to recreate the trauma as a way of getting past it... well this figure definitely recreates the trauma of being a child of the 80's and watching Optimus die and turn gray as a 10 year old child... but in a good way. Articulation is what you would expect from a modern Transformer, but with added finger movement. Durability is real good... though I fear the wounds are fatal. Design and concept are exceptional, though some missed opportunities for more battle damage details. This would have been one figure where some painted 'Siege-style' battle damage would have been appreciated. Overall, a great figure, great concept, and the price is mostly reasonable when you consider that the Commander release would cost you about $100 and all that you would get for the extra money is a simple trailer, some blast effects, an energon axe and Roller.

Get this if you don’t own the original Optimus and don’t care for his trailer. If you already own the original Optimus, you have to decide for yourself if you really need another copy in your collection. Would’ve been nice if he had more battle damage detail. The stake peg could’ve been longer so it fits in more securely in the hole.

I love this figure as hes my only official mainline optimus. Is he worth the 60 bucks? Probably not as hes barely a retool of the original but its still an amazing addition to my collection and will pair well with the mtmte megatronz
