If the blade refills are sealed, they're safe to use and the smell will dissipate after opening, but we completely understand if you'd rather not use them. A: Yes, they do smell fishy, which I doubt has anything to do with the plastic because they do have avocado oil, Hyaluronic acid & perhaps other ingredients to keep it moisturized- because once I brush the blade with soap, there's no more fish smell. I take an old toothbrush i no longer use, put some soap on it and gently brush the blade with the soapy toothbrush before each shave to ensure it's clean.
