Q: Can I take it to El Salvador by plane

submitted by Leonor - 8 years ago
  • A: Probably too late for the original poster, but hopefully this is useful to future inquiries. Helium is a non-flammable compressed gas, and as such is categorized as a Division 2.2 hazardous material in the United States and Division 2.2 dangerous good in El Salvador. Such articles can be offered as cargo on aircraft, but cannot be brought on board by passengers nor offered in checked baggage. There are certain exceptions (see 49 CFR 175.10) but helium for balloons is not among those exceptions.

submitted byHazmat Lawyer - 6 years ago
  • A: You should probably contact the airlines with this question.

    submitted bymsmot219 - 8 years ago
  • A: Although the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) does not specify helium tanks, it refers to campers' propane tanks, et al., as follows: "Empty propane or gas cylinders are allowed in checked or carry-on bags as long as our officers can see inside." In other words, you would have to remove the valve and regulator/inflator, which, of course, would mean that the helium would escape! So, the answer would seem to be, "You cannot take this or any other kind of closed cylinder on board."

Q: Is this tank refillable? IF I run out of helium, am I able to refill the tank?

submitted by Cheryl - 8 years ago

submitted byBalloonTime - 3 months ago

  • A: It doesn't loose any effectiveness while in storage. Had mine for months and use every now and then to fill up a balloon and still works fine.

    submitted byMels2310 - 8 years ago

Q: Where can it be disposed of as it is a gas ? as I believe it cant be thrown into the rubbish?

submitted by New Parent - 8 years ago
  • A: There are instructions on how to recycle it. There’s a spot to puncture a hole with a hammer and screwdriver then you use a permanent marker to indicate that it’s been emptied. It’s not that difficult.

    submitted bymjl411 - 8 years ago
  • A: The instructions say to remove all air from the tank, first, using the nozzle as if you were blowing up additional balloons (I suggest you do this in a well-ventilated area, as direct exposure to helium is considered a potential health threat), then, punch a hole in the unit where specified (it's a ring near the top of the unit), then circle the punctured rink with a permanent marker and write the word "EMPTY" above it. You may NOT be able to dispose of it through your regular trash/recyclable pick-ups, so you may be forced to bring it to a local metal recycler/salvager/junk yard, who MAY pay you for whatever the metal (steel) is worth. Or call your local trash/recycle yard to see if they'll accept a delivery (n.b., some will accept such for free, but some may charge you for the privilege).

Q: How many will one tank blow up?

submitted by Ashley - 9 years ago
  • A: "The tank is recyclable and fills up to (30) 9” latex balloons, (16) 11” latex balloons or (16) 18” foil/Mylar balloons."

submitted byJess - 9 years ago
  • A: Thanks for your feedback—we’re sorry to hear you didn’t get as many balloons inflated as expected. Our Medium Tank is designed to fill approximately 30 nine-inch latex balloons. However, many latex balloons sold today are 11” or 12" in size, and larger balloons require more helium to fill. Our medium tank will fill up to sixteen 12” balloons. Have more questions? Waste of money and had a very disappointed child. None of the balloon’s floated. We bought a tank like this in the past and it was great. Something must have changed because this tank was a dud.

DO NOT Buy

Returning immediately and expect a full refund. This tank was not filled with pure helium. Likely a compound of helium and something else. NONE of the balloons that were FULLY inflated floated completely as they should. All were struggling to float and you can clearly see this in the ribbons holding the balloons as they were not even stretched by the “lift” of the balloons. All ribbons were sagging and all balloons would fall slightly and droop to the ground despite being completely inflated. This is a complete scam. What’s worse is that the tank inflated exactly 19, 10-inch balloons (yes I inflated small foil balloons also, but counted them as 2, 10” latex balloons). This tank cannot possibly fill 30 balloons, which is yet another false claim. Inflate your balloons at Publix or the Dollar Tree. DON’T waste your money of this garbage.

Dud

The balloons did not float!
1 reply from BalloonTime team - 6 days ago
Oh no—sorry to hear your balloons didn’t float! 🎈 We know how frustrating that can be, especially when you’re trying to celebrate something special. One common culprit? Some balloons are made just for air—not helium—so they won’t float even if they’re inflated with a helium tank. We recommend checking the balloon packaging or label to confirm that they’re helium-compatible. Still unsure? We’re here to help! Send us a photo or a quick note at balloontime@wthg.com, and we’ll take a look. We want to help you get the most out of your celebration.

0% helium 100% air

Air from your lungs would work better than this. Blew up a few latex balloons. They just sat on the ground with air. Would not float. Will be returning. This is garbage and a waste of money.
1 reply from BalloonTime team - 6 days ago
Thanks for your review. To clarify, our tanks contain a helium/air mixture with not less than 80% helium, carefully formulated to float standard latex balloons for 5–7 hours and foil balloons for up to 4 days. Factors like balloon age, size, material, inflation, and even altitude can affect float performance. For even longer float times with latex balloons, use HI-FLOAT (sold separately), which prevents helium from escaping. If you have questions or need assistance, we’re always happy to help at balloontime@wthg.com!

Not Cost Effective

Giving it one star because it’s not cost effective. Used it with foil balloons, it filled the balloons but they didn’t float AT ALL. Pointless.

You're better off using your lungs.

Fresh tank and it couldn't keep even the lightest weight balloons from dropping to the ground. Such a disappointment for a birthday party. Tank says it's 80% helium, so maybe it's just watered down to cut costs? Either way, completely useless product.

Something changed!

I did blow up quit a few balloons both foil and latex. 6 regular foil, 3 jumbo foil numbers and 6 latex with still some helium left. I didn't turn the nob all the way and released a little at a time. The helium however is not that good anymore. It doesn't last long like before, less than 8 hours and at times 5-6 max.

Paying for expensive air- not helium!

This is very overpriced considering it contains mostly air and little helium. I bought one months ago and figured I just got a dud. But tried it again out of desperation. I had to fill 2 foil balloons for my daughter’s party. First foil balloon filled perfectly. The second filled but wouldn’t float. Clearly the air to helium ratio is off.

Thanks for your feedback-Our 5–7 hour float time is based on standard 9" latex balloons. Overfilled or underfilled balloons can impact float performance.
