I'm a chunky (and rather itchy) boy. I don't use this brush in the shower, but I use it after the shower (to apply lotion) and when I have an itch in a place that isn't especially easy to reach (for example, the middle of my back, or my ankle when I'm lying in bed). For those purposes, it works rather well.
When this brush is completely dry, the bristles are somewhat abrasive - sufficiently so, I think, that they do a great job at dry exfoliation but not so much so that they cause any real damage to the skin. They feel kind of like... a nylon fingernail brush spread a bit further apart, or maybe a medium boar's hair beard brush.
Personally, I've had no issues with the brush. It is, however, made of wood... so it makes sense to me that with repeated exposure to heat and moisture, it would warp and crack - as others have indicated. For my purpose, though, I couldn't have asked for a better tool.
