A new adventure hatches in the first book of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 35 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation. When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself. Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save--or destroy--the Empire. Features interlocking art that reveals an image across the spines of all four books! And don't miss the most recent book set in Eragon's world, The Fork, the Witch, and the Worm: Tales from Alagaësia! Christopher Paolini is a true rarity. --The Washington PostReview Quotes

About The Author
Christopher Paolini's abiding love of fantasy inspired him to write the Inheritance Cycle, which quickly became an internationally bestselling series. He began the first draft of the introductory book in the series, Eragon, at age fifteen. Christopher draws inspiration for the world of Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, from the natural beauty that surrounds his home in Montana: the tumultuous weather, the roaring Yellowstone River, and the soaring Beartooth Mountains. I absolutely loved this book when I was younger. It is a great fantasy book about a young guy and his dragon. It is the first of a 4 book series and although they are all great big tomes, they are definitely worth reading. I purchased this book for my niece since she loves to read. There is also a movie based on the book but it’s a complete let down when compared with the book.
Great Fantasy

I really loved this book. Eragon is such a lovable character. His relationship with Saphira is perfect. I love her too. I will definitely be continuing the series.

Eragon is a story about a boy who comes across a strange stone while hunting. His life changes forever when the stone actually turns out to be a dragon egg. This sparks a journey across Alagaësia with Saphira, the newly hatched dragon and Brom, a storyteller with quite a few secrets of his own. Brom is tasked with helping Eragon and Saphira learn the ways of the Dragon Riders all while avoiding the minions of King Galbatorix. Throughout the story, Eragon realizes that he has three options, join the King, run away or join the Varden, a group with the goal of freeing the Empire from Galbatorix’s oppressive reign. Along the way they meet many new friends such as Arya, an elf, Murtagh, a helpful enigma and Angela, a herbalist who seems to always be where the action is. Personally, I really enjoyed this book since I have always been a fan of both fantasy and medieval stories. The beginning of the novel was quite slow but after the pace picked up, all it did was gain speed. My least favorite part of this book was the beginning simply because of how slowly it began, it is good and lays the framework for the rest of the story, however it just doesn’t compare with the rest of the novel. My favorite part is not any specific part of the novel but is how descriptive Paolini’s writing is. I enjoy envisioning the world and everything that takes place down to the last detail and Paolini provides just this with his superb details. I would suggest this book to people ages twelve and up, there are many dark themes in in the book and is at a higher reading level making it less suited for younger readers. I would also suggest this book to people who enjoy the Lord of the Rings series. Some people will argue that Paolini plagiarized the ideas of the Lord of the Rings, but beyond the basic setting and some similar names, most of the story is different. If you are considering reading Eragon, have some extra time that you want to fill or are just looking for a good book to read, I would definitely suggest Eragon as it has quickly become one of my new favorite books!

The Eragon book is very well written. It details everything from a viewers perspective, not from Eragon's point of view. That's the only thing that I dislike about the book. Some words are confusing, for they are made up, but these made up words are what bring the entire Eragon book together in a tale of a Rider, and his dragon.
