Q: how long will hold a charge?

submitted by jack s - 6 years ago
  • A: The description says, "... rechargeable by certified professionals after use." Which means if used, take it to your local fire/ safety store for recharging. The indicator dial should be checked periodically (monthly or at least quarterly) and the unit should be turned upside down so the powder doesn't compact as it settles, rendering it useless.

submitted bymom - 4 years ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out. The charge would be determined by how often the device is used. When it is time to recharge your device, hire a trained professional to make sure your extinguisher is safe and gets recharged with the correct chemical extinguishing agent.

Q: Do you have to cut the white plastic safety ring or does it come off when you pull the pin?

submitted by J C - 4 years ago
  • A: Thank you for reaching out. When operating a fire extinguisher, remember the word PASS: Pull the pin. Hold the extinguisher with the nozzle pointing away from you and release the locking mechanism. Aim low. Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire. Squeeze the lever slowly and evenly. Sweep the nozzle from side-to-side.

  • A: None of the photos on this model show a plastic ring, but it should work after pulling the pin and squeezing the trigger. Anything else that may be in the way of using it should break off easily. A visual inspection can be done at the store or soon after purchase, to check for obvious defects.

Q: If this fire extinguisher is used on a stainless steel electricity ignited closed burner gas stovetop would the powder from the fire extinguisher damage the stove top or closed burners?

submitted by jan1ce - 2 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question. It is very important to remove the powder from electrical equipment after a fire. If the powder gets wet, it can conduct electricity. If you have any questions about cleaning appliances that the agent has come into contact with, please contact the appliance manufacturer.

submitted by jan1ce - 2 years ago

This thing came in clutch. I bbq'd two days in a row on day. On the 2nd day, I shoveled out charcoal from my pit, loaded it into a wheel barrow and dumped it where I always do on my 5 acre property. I could've sworn the briquettes were cold but they reignited due to high winds that night. And would you know it, a fire started and no water in sight. AND THIS SAVED MY LAND. luckily I caught the fire early. you never know! buy one today!

I needed a replacement extinguisher and chose the First Alert Home1. It comes with easy, understandable direction, fits in kitchen cabinet and provides me with the assurance it will be there if I need it. First Alert is a brand I trust and having this new extinguisher makes me feel more secure in my home.

I do not review things but today I had to use the First Alert fire extinguisher I received for my wedding in 1983 (not kidding) for a grease fire on my gas grill near my gas line on my wood deck. Grabbed it from under the sink and 5 seconds later the fire was out. Grateful for the product... and for my guardian angel.

Rating 1 star because I purchased it in store but when I got home and opened it was uncharged and needed to be serviced. Bought it with the impression that it came already charged.

Recent (Thursday May 7th,2020) I used a 5lb, class ABC dry chemical First Alert fire extinguisher, to extinguish an electrical fire that was just starting, in my home. The electrical receptacal, was being used to supply electricity to my in home Security/Fire alarm system. After having used approximatel;y half of the extinguishing agent , I had the fire put out. During this time my wife had called 911, and several fire trucks from the local municipal fire dept began to arive at my home. They used their heat sensing camers and determined that the fire had not burned long enough to damage anything other than the electrical receptacal. Glad I had a First Alert class ABC extinguisher, close by.

Overall happy with the quality. 4 stars because no screws were included. The instructions state no screws are included because walls are all different materials most common should be drywall so those can be included.

I’m so disappointed. It says it’s a 5lb fire extinguisher but it is just shy of that. We can’t return it now but found out we cannot use it.
