Learned lots of interesting information
I’ve lived in Alabama all my life and in reading this book I’ve learned lots of things I did not know. This author did extensive research on all aspects of this book. I’m not normally a nonfiction reader but on the book cover where it said “Murder, Fraud, and the last Trial of Harper Lee” had me intrigued. The Reverend Willie Maxwell was accused of murder when five of his relatives mysteriously died shortly after he took out multiple life insurance policies on each one. Tom Radney, a well known Alabama lawyer, took on his case and defended him over a period of ten years. When he was murdered, Radney took on defending the shooter. Harper Lee decided to write a book on the trial of the shooter, Robert Burns. Lots of background and history was written about that explained the situations that came about. I will be thinking about what I read for a long, long time. This book was a gift and I chose to write a review.
