  • A: You will need to use an SD card with the camera if you want to save any photos or videos, but there are other functions that do not require an SD card. For example, you should be able to use the HERO12 Black as a webcam with or without the SD card in the camera.

  • A: The HERO12 Black does not need any other housing to go under water down to 33 feet deep. If you plan to go deeper than that, then you would want to use the protective housing for the HERO12 for those dives.

Everything is extra

Never really got started. Had a lot of annoyances with this, which I'm sure were all my fault, but I thought it would be fun to use this. It wasn't. First of all, I didn't realize I had to buy a micro SD card separately, so I couldn't use it right out of the box. Also had to immediately download an app to update the software, which was crunchy and glitchy. Also didn't realize that I would have to subscribe to a service to use it, which just chaps my butt. I already have enough subscriptions to online garbage than I care to think about; I don't need another one. After thinking about it for a few days (and waiting for the SD card to be delivered), I decided to return it. If you're into creating videos, chances are this is a great product, so it likely doesn't deserve one star overall. But I definitely had a one-star experience with it.

DO NOT PURCHASE THE SUBSCRIPTION - Useless and Horrible Customer Service

I purchased the Quik subscription with my GoPro 11. I canceled the auto-reorder subscription immediately after it appeared on my credit card, within 48 hours of posting. I called Go-Pro in hopes of 48 hours of leniency, after all, I did purchase the largest, most expensive package, in addition to multiple accessories. After a quick search on the internet, I have learned their canned playbook. Be diligent and cancel ASAP The customer service rep will let you feel he/she will do everything she can to get you a refund and that they will need to email you back. This is to get you off the phone. It's not like they are going to walk down the hallway and talk to a supervisor. Instead, in an automated way, 5 days later, they'll send a canned corporate template email, that they tried and did everything they could but they had to keep to and refer you to the terms and conditions you checked1 year ago. Yes, the billion-dollar company, which incurred no additional expense for supporting my cloud subscription for 48 hours...... needed to keep my $50. As to the camera, it’s video capture is almost as good as my iPhone, but the UX is horrible, the operating system is very slow. If you are looking for a frictionless experience, shoot, upload and share, this is anything but that. I’d buy the ProExtreme (it’s not a GoPro, it’s better)

Great action cam

Works great. My last go pro was the 3 so it’s not surprising this is so much better. Reviews have always said GoPros are buggy but this has performed flawlessly. So good I bought another. Cheaper than DJI action 4 but with better image quality and stabilization. DJI has better low light but I don’t plan to do low light action.
