The book will follow my grief journeys over the years, but it ends with a few things I've learned to hopefully lessen the seismic impact of future griefs.
Because all we know is that we will grieve again and again.
Grief never truly goes away. Writing this book has meant sitting myself firmly within past pain. But it isn't picking at a sore. It's not knocking the scab off an old wound, so it never heals. It's not looking for the pain to keep the memory alive. It is accepting that these spaces created in me will always be there. Grief will always shape me; it will always inhabit me--as it should--I am a human being who has loved human beings who have died. We cannot live a life without loss.
