Book Synopsis

Our lives are filled with distractions, with pleasures that make us happy only for a second but leave us empty. Our hearts are troubled and tired, longing for something that lasts. God made us for Himself so that we might delight in His love, but the things of the world pull us away. Our devotional times can give us the structure we need to grow in our communion with God by applying biblical truths that keep our eyes on the things above:

• The centrality of the Word: God has revealed Himself through a book we can understand and that includes everything we need to know for our salvation and spiritual growth
• The privilege of prayer: God wants to listen to the deepest longings of our hearts--our sorrows and joys--and He wants to use our intercession to accomplish His purposes in the world
• The need for consistency: God is the source of all wisdom; He knows our need and invites you to abide in Him continuously, not to rely on our own strength and understanding
• The intimacy of solitude: God is eager to speak to us... but a lot of the time, the world is too loud. We do good in stepping away from the noise regularly, also making sure we are not engaging in spiritual practices only when other people see us
• The freedom of transparency: God calls us to come as we are, right now. We don't have to feel like it or even pretend we do. He's always available for us and His loving arms never turn us away

About the Author

Ana served as a writer and editor at Coalición por el Evangelio, the Spanish sister website of The Gospel Coalition, for almost ten years. She holds a degree in Clinical and Biological Chemistry and a diploma in Biblical Studies. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Ana is a Consulting Scholar for Blueprint 1543 and co-led "Deep Training for Broader Impact," a faith and science project made possible by the Templeton Foundation.
