The best way to keep this from getting static is to use it in a room with a humidifier when there are low humidity levels; other options to alleviate static would be anti-static spray, or using dryer sheets when laundering.

I have purchased maybe 6 or 7 of these blankets over the years. After maybe 5 years, they do start to lose their softness but that is with weekly washings. The ones I have that aren't used daily on beds are still in perfect soft condition. I think the people saying that the blankets pill, are washing with hot water, on an aggressive wash cycle, using too much detergent, and/or drying too long on high heat. I love these blankets and brand. Very soft without making you hot.
