Special Agent Ethan Hunt returns but this time he has withdrawn from active duty to focus on his personal life. Still involved with IMF as an instructor, Ethan is drawn back into the field when one of his former students is captured. When the extraction doesn't go as smoothly as planned, Ethan becomes the target of an investigation when it becomes clear that a mole is working deep within IMF. On the run and cut off from his agency, Ethan and rag tag group of IMF agents must get to the bottom of the conspiracy before a new technology codenamed "Rabbit's Foot" falls into the wrong hands.
