Mr. Beer’s Deluxe Bottling System includes 12, 25 oz. reusable, shatterproof bottles. These bottles allow brewers to perform a “squeeze test” to ensure the beer is fully carbonated, so the beer stays completely sealed until it is ready to drink. If bottles are opened before carbonation is complete, unwanted oxygen is introduced to your beer, which can cause off flavors and aromas.
These came with my kit and I had them laying around my place and figured why not give them a shot. I usually use glass bottles, but everyone gave them such a good review. Since I had them I tried them out and the beer turned out really flat I did 3 weeks fermenting in the lbk and 3 weeks bottling and then stored them in the fridge for a few weeks and they just ended up very flat. Just do yourself a favor and buy bottles and a capper, I have had better experience with doing that.
I bought these bottle as they were a good, reusable choice for my lastest batch of Grasscutter Ale. However, the anti-tamper ring on the included caps wouldn't allow the caps to seat properly, thus allowing liquid to leak out. I performed a leak test, prior to my actual bottling day, so a quick & easy fix was to simply break off these rings by hand. Not really a big deal, but I would recommend you check yours before putting any of your hard work into the bottles. :) I'd definitely buy them agin, but will always check the caps for fit prior to use.
I was able to get a perfect seal on eight bottles. But the other four, no matter how hard I hand cranked to the point of no more movement, still leaked. As you would expect, those four bottle are failing the carbonation squeeze test. I would still recommend this product but with reservations.
These bottles are different than bottles I bought just a year ago. These seem to be just fine, except the black plastic bottle caps that came with them would not seal due to tamper evident band bottoming out before the caps would seal on the top of the bottle. This wasn't an issue with the bottles I got last year. Easy enough to fix, just remove the tamper evident band before putting the caps on the first time, but it took a few leaky bottles and some investigating to figure it out.
While I prefer the 1 liter size but they are unavailable, these 740 ml will come in handy. Bottling can be a real pain so the larger the bottle the better. Very strong PET plastic and I'm looking forward to using.
