The instructions include the following guidance for battery installation: Insert a tool or other object (not included) into hole in top of battery cover to depress tab. While depressing tab, slide battery door open. After inserting batteries, slide door closed until it clicks into place.

Son loves this gun
My son has this gun and he really enjoys playing with it. It s a basic model which shoots one bullet at a time but an ideal first gun. Easy to reload and shoot, quite powerful however so not great for close range shooting.
