The title points to a mode of thinking in layers and shifts in perspective that underlies her artistic practice. At the core of her oeuvre are questions of human existence, memory, and emotional depth. This book is published on the occasion of the exhibition » Multiface«, which was presented in 2024/2025 at the Kestner Gesellschaft in Hanover as the most comprehensive show of her work to date. It is not a traditional exhibition catalogue, but rather an artist's book that brings together watercolors, drawings, and sculptures from various phases of her career. An extensive visual section makes the multilayered nature of Paloma Varga Weisz's work tangible. With a keen sensitivity to corporeality, symbolism, and historical references, she has developed a distinctive artistic language. The book was created in close collaboration with the artist and mirrors the exhibition's multiplicity of perspectives.

About the Author

Alexander Wilmschen is Curator at the Kestner Gesellschaft Hannover. Paloma Varga Weisz (*1966) studied wood sculpture from 1987 to 1990 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and continued her studies until 1998 at the Kunstakademie Dü sseldorf under Tony Cragg and Gerhard Merz. Her multifaceted body of work was awarded, among other honors, the Marianne-Werefkin Award in Berlin in 2007. She has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in major group exhibitions, including in 2021 in London at the National Gallery and at Le Consortium in Dijon; and in 2015 at the Rubell Family Collection and Contemporary Arts Foundation in Miami.
