Description

Join Mario on an epic paper-adventure to collect the Crystal Stars before the X-Nauts do!

The nefarious X-Nauts are after the treasure behind the Thousand-Year Door! With a map from Princess Peach, and the help of a few locals, Mario journeys through a colorful world made of paper to find them first. To prevail in this quest, you’ll have to level up Mario and his friends, master timing-based attacks and badges to impress the audience on the stage of combat, and make use of all the abilities that come with being cursed—er, conveniently made of paper—like folding into a plane to cross big gaps or turning sideways to slip through narrow openings.

Leaf through a storybook world with charming characters in every fold

Surprises abound in this deep and engaging tale, where everyone’s got something to say and it’s often not what you’d expect. Mario will meet all kinds of interesting folks on his journey, like the upbeat and studious Goombella and the shy but determined Koops. Some of these characters will need your help with their own quests, or even join your party. Others, like Peach and Bowser, have stories of their own that you’ll play between Mario’s chapters!

A classic turns the page, bringing fresh visuals and updated features

Twenty years after the original game on the Nintendo GameCube™ system, this version for the Nintendo Switch™ system has revamped graphics, and a suite of additional changes that make the game easier than ever to enjoy.

Inappropriate Storytelling for Kids and Adults Alike

1 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
The Chosen One - 12 days ago
I'm here to tell you, that as an avid gamer and someone who played this on GameCube, it's inappropriate for children to play. This game is made by Inteligent Systems, who makes Fire Emblem (somewhat iffy anime rpg). This game is similar in storytelling, in that there is some iffy parts. Paper Mario is worse though because there are naked scenes, which although you don't "see anything" have to watch Peach take a shower and get dressed behind a curtain. There's also another part where Peach becomes invisible (but not fully), and removes her clothing off screen to become naked, and fully invisible to sneak in a base. And don't get me started on the trans message that was implied, but not canoninzed. All in all these details are and will be unavoidable on any playthrough, and a child will most certainly face them. My thoughts are that these things could skew/deviate someone's sexuality for worse. Shame because it's somewhat good, but is carried by crude humor-ish jokes and narration.

We loved Paper Mario Origami King, and this predecessor was so much fun! The final battle is a real beast, but overall, it's a great game.

Where to start. First there are incomplete parts or the story books/ graphics. Literally an entire white wall. Just sloppy. I had to pull up a walkthrough guide to play this which I don't do untill im in finish up mode, but be prepared to need this. You play more in side task mode then you do the actual levels. In the levels you are running back to the beginning to find the trinkets you need to get to the boss. After you beat the boss you have to spend 20 min playing peach and then bowser for no reason. I stopped playing when I had to push buttons 100 time so one of the characters could say "I love you" to his girlfriend for no reason! Just don't even start this game.

I had been waiting a long time for this game to FINALLY be on the Nintendo switch and it did not disappoint! Brings back the feelings of nostalgia of playing this on the GameCub. Great purchase and great remake.

Worst Mario game ever

I'm a huge fan of Mario games and have been playing since the 80s. This game is terrible. It's nothing like the other Mario games. There is soooo much talking by NPCs that you can't skip through, and after maybe 20 minutes of dialogue you finally get to do something, but the game only lets you attack one goomba at a time and tells you what button to push. If you don't push it at the EXACT moment it tells you too slow or too fast and you have to keep trying. I was never able to get past the tutorial on this. I even called Nintendo and their troubleshooting team couldn't fix it. Also the save points are pretty few and far between. If you die and start back you still have to go through your 20 minutes of dialogue to get back to where you were. I cannot understand how this would be fun for anyone. Very boring and frustrating game.

I've played this game just about 20 times since my childhood, and every time I play it I discover something new and beautiful about it. It has an addictive battle system that's easy to pick up and play but challenges you to master it and find all its secrets. There's so much to discover from every person you talk to, and every level is rewarding in its own way. Complex characters, great humor, and so much variety and great storytelling. A must buy for Nintendo and Mario fans!

Best Mario game ever!! This game is my favorite game of all time and I was so excited to see it brought back for the switch! The switch version stays true to the 2004 game cube version but the upgrades are beautifully done! Out of the whole paper Mario series, this is the best one yet and hopefully Nintendo can return to the rpg format for future paper Mario games.
