A: It's for power. This thing has a USB-C / USB-A cable that you need to plug into a (USB-A) power source. No AC adapter is provided which is probably why the price is so low.

A: Jason, thank you for your question. Even though the Philips SWV9173GR/37 claims “4K @ 120Hz / 48 Gbps HDMI 2.1,” blank screens at 4K120 with an Xbox Series X usually mean the signal isn’t actually making it cleanly through the chain. HDMI switches often don’t truly pass full HDMI 2.1. The cable must be Ultra High Speed HDMI (48 Gbps certified) and only a short run, not a long HDMI.

Low quality item. ordered 1st, did not arrive. 2nd arrived and button of switcher immediately fell out and would not go back in. Ended up turning button upside down to make it work but then 2 months down the road (no rough wear and tear) it failed to switch between devices as well as constant flickering and the screen going black. Unfortunately past the return window now so just going to have to trash it. Very light device, thin plastic feel. Requires usb-c cord for external power

Not Compatible w/Xbox Series X
Does not work with Xbox Series X (4K120Hz not supported, even with two certified HDMI 2.1 cables). It will work on 4K60Hz or 1080p120Hz but not the exact sweet spot combination that this advertises.

This device wouldn't switch to the 2nd port. I would push the button, the light would switch sides briefly and then immediately switch back to the 1st port. Had to return it. Didn't try a second one, just got a different brand.

Literally doesnt work.
Literally doesn’t work. Lights don’t turn on. Was trying to connect my PC to TV and neither the PC or TV could register that they were connected. I removed the switch and plugged to the TV directly through HDMI with no switch as a test and it worked. So it has to be the switch

Quite simply, it didn't work as advertised
My goal was to connect both an XBox Series X and PS5 Slim to my TV and do so at 4K@120Hz. Despite supplying it power via its USB connector and the product advertising 4K/120Hz support, it simply didn't work. For one of my consoles, it would support 4K/60Hz and the other just sat there flickering on/off (every few seconds). It simply couldn't handle the signal. The 3 cables I used are all 4K/120Hz HDMI 2.1 cables that support up to 48Gpbs and work fine when connecting the consoles to the A/V receiver directly. The only culprit left standing is this Phillips 8K switch.

False advertising
Does not support 4K at 120htz as advertised. Using HDMI 2.1 cables it still had bottlenecks that caused loss of HDR10 and Dolby atmos support.

Noticed a few milliseconds of input delay on PlayStation 4; negligible to most people, might be a deal breaker to competitive players.

It works great with My 4k TV, my Blue Ray player, & My Apple TV. It took only a minute to install them I was up and running. No more unplugging my 4k devices. Now it just takes a quick second to switch my devices.
