Sun Tropics Original Saba Banana Chips - 6oz

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I had hoped these chips would be sweet since they are banana chips and not plantain chips, and have a balanced sweet-salty flavor profile, but these chips aren't sweet at all. Despite that, I actually ended up enjoying more than expected because they aren't too salty either. They have a well-balanced, mildly salty flavor profile. I'm someone who thinks potato chips are often too salt and greasy so if you're like me and need a chip alternate to potato chips, I recommend trying these banana chips.

This flavor was more expensive than the same brand’s flavor at my Target, which was strange to me. The texture is okay, the flavor just isn’t as sweet as I’d like. It’s more of a plantain tasting snack than a banana tasting one.

The more I eat it though, it tastes pretty salty, so definitely cannot eat the whole bag in one sitting. These are a great alternative to regular potato chips.

I like that they have a good crunch and aren’t overwhelmed by being too salty. They satisft my need for crunch and are a better alternative to a potato chip. I also like that it has a resealable zipper top to keep them fresh!

They are easy to store in my purse and I give them as a healthy snack for my kids. The chips have a great taste and are crunchy. They are slightly salted and this is just about right! The banana chips themselves looks like they would be tasty and crunchy, however, as soon as you bite into them, all that was tasted was salt. Granted, I do usually want something to be sweet versus salty, but this snack was just more than I could handle. I didn’t want to eat more than just one or two of the small chips and we ended up passing them on to someone else to try because these banana chips are not something that were enjoyed.

It is a wonderful snack for the whole family, even kids under 3. Very nice trail snack too. The taste is just right. I think I will buy it again. Love it.

I didn’t really get much banana flavor and I didn’t really care for the taste. The texture was interesting and not what I expected. It was smooth but hard and crunchy. The first few bites didn’t taste like anything, but the after taste had some flavor, but not anything I like I probably will not eat this again.

These are perfect bite-size pieces for me when I need a snack on the go. Each banana chip has the perfect amount of salt on it, and it does not leave your hands messy. I love the subtle taste of banana and how it’s not too overpowering.

I have tried other plantain and banana chips many times before and while I always enjoy, sometimes I find them too thick to the point where they are almost like crack your teeth hard to eat. These did not have that problem at all! I learned from the packaging that these are made from a special type of banana called Saba and “sliced in a unique way for extra thin” chips and they definitely delivered on the promise. Super thin, crunchy but easy to eat. I ate plain but would also be excellent dipped in guacamole, salsa, hummus etc. Not a super strong flavor but a nice subtle sweetness from the banana and saltiness from the sea salt. I’d be interested in trying their original variety as well for times when I am not craving salt. I love that these literally only have 3 ingredients - bananas, coconut oil and sea salt so I can confidently enjoy. My only critique is these sea salt ones cost almost double the original bag even though they were approximately the same weight.

They're super crunchy and the sea salt isn't over powering. They only contain 3 ingredients saba bananas, coconut oil, and sea salt. No added sugars or dyes.

I was not impressed with the taste at all when you open the bag. It smells absolutely nasty so I was like already nervous but I do love that. It’s got very few ingredients and only 160 cal per serving and that they are super thin and easy to snack on. They’re not as Hard to chew as the other brands.

They taste more like plantain chips to me, not so much a dried fruit banana flavor as some may think. I really enjoy plantain chips so this was perfect for me. This is unique as I expected them to taste sweet like a banana but they taste more like a chip with just the right amount of salty. They are slightly thicker than the standard chip.

There's a good crunch, the very lightest sweetness from the banana, and a hearty salty flavor. They don't feel too greasy either. It's almost like a French fry satisfaction. The texture is very crunchy and the flavor is very rich. I personally think it's better than potato chips. It's much better that it's fried with coconut oil instead of seed oil and hydrogenated oil.
