A: We’re glad you asked! At Happy Egg, we believe the American Humane Certified Free Range certification is the best fit for our hens. It provides 21.8 square feet of outdoor space per bird, with at least 60% vegetation, and on our Pasture Raised farms, birds enjoy 50 acres or 108 square feet per hen. In comparison, Certified Humane’s Free Range standard only requires 2 square feet per bird. Our hens also have outdoor access for at least 8 hours a day, weather permitting, along with plenty of shelter at night to keep them safe from predators. We’re committed to providing our hens with the space and care they deserve!

A: Our hens enjoy a nutrient-rich diet packed with vitamins and minerals that does include corn and soy (plus what they snack on in the pasture!). Corn and soy ensure the hens get enough protein, while keeping farming financially sustainable for farmers and eggs affordable for you! Feed free of corn and soy is not only difficult to source but nearly doubles costs for farmers. Major increases like this make it harder for farmers support their families, and making sure farmers are paid fairly is something we will always stand by. More questions? A: Organic Free Range eggs come from hens raised on certified organic farms, receiving organic feed while roaming on 8+ acres.

A: We think you are asking about our feed and not the eggs themselves. If so, both! Our Happy Hens eat our proprietary blend of whole grains, including both corn and soy, which they love! Soy is a great source of both protein and fat for our beloved birds’ nutrition.

A: No, our eggs aren’t pasteurized, but we do have a process where the eggs are heated (not up to 100 degrees Celsius as pasteurization requires) and held at a minimum required temperature for a specified time to destroy bacteria. Prepared egg products do require pasteurization, but because Happy Egg only sells shelled eggs, it is not common practice for them to be pasteurized. A: Yes! Happy Egg Organic Eggs are certified USDA Organic and are laid by Happy Hens who forage and play on 8+ acres of outdoor pastures every day.

A: Hi! The expiration date should be on the right-hand side of the carton. If you are still not able to find it, we should mention eggs can be refrigerated for three to five weeks from the day they are first placed in the refrigerator, per the USDA. Store your Happy Eggs in your fridge at 40°F or lower to keep them fresh. If you still feel worried that the eggs may not be fresh, try the egg float test! Put your Happy Egg in a bowl of cold water. If the egg sinks to the bottom, it is still fresh!

Because the hens have the ability to go outdoors, their daily feed is supplemented by a range-foraged diet, including grass and bugs. The hen’s feed is free of added meat, bone meal or hormones. In addition, Happy Egg hens producing organic eggs are fed a 100% organic, non-GMO diet.
