Description

About the Book

Wait, Hear is the honest confession of a serial self-achiever, a megachurch pastor who found himself facing a season of losses, a drought of faith, and an extreme case of spiritual burnout. Afraid of failing at everything, he found again the one thing we all need most: ears to hear the Father's heart for His beloved children.

Book Synopsis

Who has time to wait on God anymore?
Certainly not the believer who was too busy working for Him to actually hear from Him.

Wait / Hear is an honest confession of an activity addict--a guy who measured his spirituality by the speed of his schedule and the scope of his ministry. But when a season of devastating losses collided with a drought of faith, activity turned out to be just busyness wearing a church badge. The noise in his life had become so deafening he couldn't hear the one Voice that mattered.

In the wreckage of burnout, Robby rediscovered the one thing we all desperately need: ears to hear what God is saying. But he found it in the last place he wanted to look--in the quiet, in the stillness, in the kind of silence most people avoid at all costs.

This book is an invitation to discover the same practices that turned a season of burnout into a lifetime of breakthrough, proving that God still speaks to those who are still enough to listen.

Review Quotes

"Dr. Robby Gallaty is a man on a mission to be close with Jesus Christ. His book Wait / Hear is like being in the huddle and hearing the immediate next steps to a closer walk with Jesus. He takes us back to a literal front porch in the winter of 2020--where a weary, desperate pastor stopped performing and started listening--and shows that the revival that followed at Long Hollow was not manufactured in strength but surrendered to in weakness. I have spent my life making the case that our faith rests on real places, real people, and real events; Robby reminds me that the same Jesus whose empty tomb is the best-attested fact of antiquity still speaks, still calls, and still waits to be heard. His distinction between data and da'at--information about God versus intimacy with God--is alone worth the price of the book. Read it slowly. Better yet, read it on a porch."
--Jeremiah J. Johnston, PhDmember, Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas; #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Jesus Discoveries

"You will have a hard time putting this book down. If this book does not give you a hunger for God, I don't know what will. It is often said that a good speaker is usually not a good writer and that a good writer is often not a good speaker. But Dr. Robby Gallaty blows away that myth. He is my pastor and I cannot tell which he is better at! Give this book to your friends and you will be doing them and the kingdom of God a sublime favor."
--R. T. KendallSenior Minister, Westminster Chapel, London (1977-2002)
