Q: this works for xbox series X right ?

submitted by mjuchiha - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi, mjuchiha! Regarding your question about the Western Digital My Passport 4TB - Black: No, this external HDD is a USB 2.0 drive and you would need one with a USB 3.0 to play Xbox One games. Bear in mind even with a USB 3.0 external HDD you will only be able to play Xbox One games and not new Series X/S games as they require the speeds provided by a SSD. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact MyTGTtech at 877-698-4883 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

I had a hard time setting up this drive when I first got it a couple years ago. I should've respected the red flags and got another device. Now here I am trying to overnight a Samsung T7 to save my PSD file I need to finsih and submit by Tuesday. My final straw: hard drive mounts and dismounts on its own accord and has corrupted my files as I bought the drive to work off of to solve my scratch disk issues. It worked until it didn't. Regret ever buying this.

This stopped working within 6 months of use. I'm a photographer, and no longer have access to my backed up photos or files on here. Additionally, I'm outside the return window, so I've lost out on money spet as well. Very frustrated and dissapointed. I do not recommend this product.

Purchased in December 2022. Had worked fine, however, no longer opens and crashes File Explorer any time I try to access my files. Tried to even access the files to backup to no avail. This has resulted in the loss of several important files on the backup. Steer clear of this product-try other options.

This is the second WD My Passport I bought a few months ago. The case is more comfortable to grasp (compared with the previous design), and the texture is good-looking. The actual capacity is 3.63 TB, which should be enough for long-term backup of my videos, docs, photos, etc. It is somewhat disappointing to find that I can't decrypt the drive on Android devices. Overall, the product is good and suitable for anyone with a limited budget and a massive data storage need.

I purchased the 4 TB by accident and even though I will probably need more storage in the future and should have kept it, I returned it for the 2TB storage. However, they are the same exact size by the same company and was easily compatible with my macbook pro (as it states on the box)

Hello, We are sorry to hear about your user experience with WD My Passport Portable External Hard Drive and appreciate your time providing this review and bringing this matter to our concern. There can a few causes due to which the drive has unrecognizable. Such causes include the faulty USB port of the drive or the computer, faulty USB cable of the drive or the drive itself may not be getting enough power to spin up and register on the computer to show up. Unsafe ejection of the drive during any read or write operation can also result in the corruption of the drive's partition. Best practice is to run diagnostics with WD Drive Utilities when a drive does not perform as expected or is behaving abnormally. We recommend avoiding USB hubs for external hard drives and therefore connect the drive directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. We have placed a few helpful links below providing more information for your convenience. "Setting up and using WD Security and WD Drive Utilities": https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13880 "Windows or macOS Cannot Find My Drive": https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12455 If the test is unfortunately inconclusive and you just purchased the drive then you should be able to return it to the place of purchase. However, if you are past their return policy, you can create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty if necessary. "How to get an RMA to replace a defective product, or obtain a power supply or USB cable for a WD product": https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10336 All our products must pass our stringent quality standards before leaving our factory to be free from defects in materials and craftsmanship. This is my third 2TB Passport HDD and the second HDD to fail. The first one lasted less than a year, the second died in less than a month. It was a major hassle to get a return authorization for the first failed drive, the second was a breeze. Perhaps WD knows they're shipping some bad product... The first replacement has been working for several months now; I'm hoping the second replacement will also prove reliable.

We have identified a firmware issue that presents itself in very limited situations and can cause SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2, SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD V2, and WD My Passport SSD products to unexpectedly disconnect from a computer. Full details, including a serial number lookup tool to find out if your product is impacted, can be found on the Firmware Updates for SanDisk & WD Portable SSDs page. https://support-en.wd.com/app/firmwareupdate

A $100 paper weight...

I chose WD because I have a few 1TB and below I’ve used in the past. I loved how they’re products are basically a plug in and easy drag and drop, no hassles storage device. Except this one wasn’t the case. I had to download software for this one which I didn’t mind but was slightly annoyed because again I loved the simple plug in and drag and drop. What really upset me is after doing a test transfer of 1 video and 1 picture it stopped working. I couldn’t get anything else to transfer. Spent hours researching why, changed my wires, made sure drivers and software were up to date, used recommended software, tried single drag and drop, nothing, no success what so ever. Then to make matters worse I wasn’t able to return or exchange it for a different one. When I purchased it online I hadn’t used it right away and by the time I tried to return/exchange it in store they wouldn’t allow it because it was a few days past the return date. So now I have this $100 paper weight….

I bought My Passport to store very large fine art paintings. It copies them fast, but I should have gotten a drive with more capacity. It takes a bit more time to render them. Other than that, I have no problems with My Passport. It's ease to use, practical, and smaller than my phone.
