I got this book for my daughters book exchange at school and we decided to read it before we give it away. The book has definitely kept us interested. I would recommend it

Honestly the best middle grade book I’ve ever read. It’s so beautiful and I wish I had read it when I was like 11. That age can be so difficult with so many changes happening with some bad like experiencing death of loved one for first time or just realizing that life can be hard sometimes and this book does such an amazing job at showing that times can be hard while still being magical. I feel as though authors of middle grade books can sometimes be kind of condescending towards their readers by talking down to them but this book truly captures what 10-12 feels like and if you’re a kid I feel this book will be like a hug and if an adult you’ll get hit with what that time was really like again.

Not for younger children. It has mature themes. Definitely 13+

Fantastic book! Every parent should read this to their child. There are no mature themes in this book as mentioned in a previous review, nor were my kiddos confused. This book is very deserving of its Newberry Medal win.

Could have been a great book, but mature themes at end of book, not for young children.

Sooo well written. I read it out loud to my 4 and 6 year olds but boy I would recommend it to an adult reading just for their own enjoyment too. Beautiful, magic and so full of feeling.
