Typical listings show file-drawer ratings from about 22 lb up to 55 lb per drawer (some note 55 lb per drawer / 110 lb total), a small-drawer rating around 11 lb in one listing, tabletops/countertops listed roughly 100–155 lb, and one wood cabinet listing overall support up to about 220 lb.

Common stability features include drawer-interlock systems, anti-tip/anti-topple kits or devices, adjustable or replaceable feet, and lockable casters on mobile units.

Many cabinets use full-extension drawers with quiet ball-bearing or steel slide rails, allowing smooth operation and full access to hanging files.
