Features that improve adhesion on wet or mobile areas include waterproof construction or seals, self‑adhering/cohesive materials, and flexible stretchable fabric that moves with the joint.

Most bandages are single‑use and list 'Discard After Using' as the primary instruction. A few fabric-type products note spot cleaning or washing and air‑dry guidance, but single-use disposal is the standard for wound dressings.

Non-stick wound pads and cushioning comfort pads help prevent the dressing from adhering to the wound, reducing pain on removal. Flexible, stretchable fabric adhesives also let the pad move with the skin during removal, which can further minimize discomfort.
