Metal polishing cloths and wipes are typically made from polyester, microfiber, or natural cotton fibers.

They’re formulated for polished metals and similar finishes, commonly including silver, gold, stainless steel, chrome, copper, and sterling or silver-plated items.

They clean and remove dirt, polish and restore shine, reduce or help prevent tarnish and discoloration, and deliver streak-free, absorbent results on polished surfaces.

Dampen or wet the cloth, wring it out, then wipe the surface. Rinse the cloth between tasks and launder when needed to refresh—one item recommends using only water (no extra cleaners) for best results.

Several products explicitly advise against using their jewelry polishing cloths on porous or soft gem materials such as pearl, opal, and coral.

Two-step cloths use an inner cleaning layer to remove dirt and tarnish, then an outer polishing layer to buff the piece and apply the final shine or anti-tarnish treatment.
