Carriers emphasize ventilation with mesh panels, ventilated holes, and zip-up mesh windows. Many models also offer multiway access (for example, 4-way entries) to make it easier to put pets in and let them see out.
Typical safety features include internal safety buckles or straps to attach the pet’s harness, buckle-secure zippers, reflective tape for low-light visibility, and built-in leash/harness attachment points to reduce escape risk.
Measure your pet’s length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail, and measure height from the floor to the top of the shoulder. Compare those dimensions to the carrier’s internal measurements to ensure a comfortable fit.
Most airline-approved carriers target small pets. Listings commonly reference weight limits in the 12–18 pound range and sizes labeled “Small” up to about 25 pounds.
