Rice washers are commonly made from stainless steel or plastics such as polypropylene (PP).
They typically use fine holes or fine/ultra-fine mesh—plastic (PP) strainers often advertise 'Fine Holes,' while metal strainers use a 'fine mesh' construction.
Many models include handles—some listings describe two handles for a comfortable grip, and metal strainers note a non-slip, sturdy design.
They are described for washing and draining vegetables, fruits, and grains, and for general tasks like filtration and short-term storage.
They are typically round in shape; some listings note a flat-processed bottom that makes them stable and easy to use.
