Common safety features include rounded, burr-free surfaces; non-slip steps; raised or ergonomic handrails; buffer/deceleration zones on slides (often three-stage designs); safety nets or raised rails on inflatables; and wide, stable bases to reduce tipping.
Many playsets are designed for both indoor and outdoor use. Small plastic slides are often labeled indoor/outdoor and are portable; larger HDPE climbers are described as all-weather or suitable for outdoor use; some plywood options are intended for indoor use only.
Many target toddlers around 18 months to 6 years. Some larger climbers and inflatables list older age ranges too, up to about 12–15 years.
