Too Salty
The first medium-sized piece of fried onion that I tried from the can was so salty I had to spit it out. Absolutely inedible. Other pieces from the can ranged from dreadfully salty to OK but quite salty.

Would eat more often if it was not so salty
Crispy light batter that does not mask the sweet taste of fried onions but there is an over-powering taste of salt.

Large pieces of skin covered in coating
As you don't have a way to email you with an issue, I'm forced to write a negative review, which I'm usually reluctant to do. Other consumers have left reviews mentioning the same issue: coated skins among the onions. So my experience is not isolated. I have used your product for many years and have not encountered a problem until now, which leads me to think that your quality control has declined and maybe you're trying to get more out of an onion, not worrying about what the consumer is getting. Do you think consumers won't notice? This is unfortunate as I will be returning the product to the store every time I find this or any other issue and I will look into finding alternative products. So, you might be defeating the purpose of saving by lowering you quality control and using skins in you French's Crispy Fried Onions. I hope you will correct this issue very soon.

French's Crispy Fried Salt
For Thanksgiving, I bought a 6-oz container of French's "since 1904" Crispy Fried Onions "original," to make the classic green bean casserole that my family (parents, grandparents, grandchildren & great-great grandchildren) enjoyed for decades. After tasting a couple of onions, I sadly had to nix that idea. They tasted like pure salt! Was it REAL American Grown SALT??? I could care less!!! I will never buy your onions again -- unless, perhaps, if you make a low-salt or no-salt version -- & I will warn friends & family to avoid them, too. Not only are they inedible, but they could be life-threatening to anyone suffering from high blood pressure or other conditions exacerbated by salt or sodium chloride.

Meh
Not sure if it's me or if the recipe has changed. I haven't had these in years but they're not nearly as good as I remember. I used to be able to eat these straight out of the can like chips, they were THAT good. These just didn't cut it. I also noticed the container is plastic now and not the metal can that it used to come in so I really think they changed the recipe... or maybe I just picked up the wrong ones?

Onion skin and pieces of onion found in container
Found pieces of onion skin and root of onion in my French's fried onion. Attempted to contact but office closed and no way to leave voicemail or email the company to report it. The AI assistant just keeps providing email that hangs ups because they are closed. Only way to report it is on this review.

French's Fried Onion Crumbs
Both boxes I purchased at a local chain grocery were reduced to fine crumbs and in some cases, an unusable powder. Just letting you know that I discovered how easy these fried onions are to make and that I'm finished buying your substandard products. Part of the fun with these onions when we were kids was to snag a big piece to munch on. There are no big pieces anymore and that fancy box holds even less now than before. I hope others follow suit and make their own. It's the only way we have to make their point that quality is important.

A guilty pleasure
I have made the green bean casserole a few times, but the main reason I buy this product.... I love eating the crispy fried onions right out of the container. I know it may sound gross to some, but I really love the onion taste as a snack. It is better than the snack shaped like opinions rings because this is real onions. I do hate the price is higher and yet the package size is smaller. It is still has the taste I enjoy and especially for the holiday season.

Expired months ago
I bought this today (11/29/2025) and didn’t notice until I opened it at home that it’s rancid and already expired in August, on 8/5/2025. I’m not the first reviewer to experience this, so it’s clearly an ongoing issue they haven’t addressed.

Chemical Smell, Taste & Texture 👎
Yesterday [11/27/25], used French's crispy fried onions in our Thanksgiving green bean casserole. When I opened the container, then 'chemical' smell was Very evident. Thought it was weird, but topped the casserole with the onions and baked. Sadly, this was a BIG Mistake…as we couldn't eat any of the dish due to the strange and unappealing smell, texture and taste. We will not be using this product again. P.S. If I could give a Zero Star Rating, I would.

Onion rings
Palm oil is unhealthy and inflammatory. You should care more and use something healthy like good olive oil or avocado.

Excellent fried onions
There is a nice variety of sizes of the crispy onions, and they are perfect on a lot of things, not limited to, hotdogs, hamburgers & ramen. For that, I'd give 5 stars. McCormick really needs to review their bags of Crispy Fried Onions, as it's NEVER possible to tear open, so scissors are always needed and then on top of that, the "self sealing" option doesn't work properly either. Learn something from ie. Ziplock. For this, I've initially deducted 1 star, but decided to deduct two, as it's so annoying to open the bags, and just as annoying to close it again, and usually I'll end up using a chip clip, because the bag won't stay shut.

French's Crispy Fried Onions
My family loves Green Bean Cassarole and the Crispy Fried Onions are an integral part of it. The last 6oz container of the French's Crispy Fried Onions ruined our enjoyment of the cassarole. There were small pieces of onion skin that were part of the crispy fried onions. This was annoying and ruined the dish. The pieces stuck to my tongues & other parts of my mouth-very uncomfortable. Don't know what to due as I've used the brand for many years.

How to get your kids to eat healthier chicken!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My kids usually only eat breaded chicken, but thanks to this now I was able to get them to actually eat chicken cooked in the oven! What I do is I season my chicken breast and I bake them in the oven. I add olive oil oil and the little Worcestershire sauce, a little bit of garlic salt and pepper. I crunched these up and crumble them on top and the kids are now obsessed with it! It makes me happy to know that now they won't be only eating fried breaded chicken and now finally found a way to get them to eat the healthier alternative!

Not like they used to be
Did they change the recipe? They taste too sweet, not salty like they used to, and have a funny aftertaste like maybe the oil was old or not palm oil. This is so unfortunate- they were the best brand.

We miss the Cheddar flavor!
I used to make chicken with the cheddar flavored ones. It was the best. The original just isn't as good on chicken. I rarely buy it now because the cheddar flavor is no longer available.
