It blends effortlessly and eliminates all white cast. It is infused with natural ingredients such as avocado, jojoba, cacao, carrot juice and sunflower oil. These soothe, moisturize, protect, hydrate and heal skin.

Our story begins with the need for a sunscreen brand that caters exclusively to women of color.

From carrying expensive umbrellas to the beach to avoiding the sunshine all together, women of color have come up with their own methods of protecting their skin. For years, sunscreen has been tailored to light skin individuals, leaving behind a visible white-residue on our darker skin sisters. Blotchy makeup and white residue were enough to keep people from truly enjoying a beautiful sunny day. Our founder thought it was about time to change that.

In 2016, Shontay Lundy created Black Girl Sunscreen, a 30 SPF lotion infused with natural ingredients and formulated for women of color. Made with melanated skin in mind, BGS dries completely clear and protects melanin without the white-cast.

Directions

Directions reapply apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure after 80 minutes of swimming or sweating immediately after towel drying at least every 2 hours Sun Protection Measures. Spending time in the sun increases your risk of skin cancer and early skin aging. To decrease this risk, regularly use a sunscreen with a Broad Spectrum SPF of 15 or higher and other sun protection measures including: limit time in the sun, especially from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. wear long-sleeved shirts, pants, hats, and sunglasses children under 6 months: Ask a doctor.

A: You're right, it isn't racial division -- it's introducing a product to fill a need that hasn't been filled before: sunscreen that doesn't make dark skin look chalky. Which means that people with darker-hued skin can protect themselves without having to sacrifice appearance, which wasn't a problem for lighter-hued people. Now we can all put our skin health first! Hooray for inclusivity! (recognizing factual differences isn't division ... it's only "division" if you apply qualitative judgements to them)

Best sunscreen ever!

This is my most favorite sunscreen ever it’s thick consistency, not overly thick, but not really thin. When I put this on and I don’t have to put moisturizer on before it, it leaves my skin so dewy and glowy. I highly recommend my sunscreen. There is no white cast. I always put this under my makeup and I have had no problems.

White Cast

It’s been years since Ive tried this product and I couldn’t remember why I didn’t like it in the first place so I decided to try it again because my sister loves it. This product left a white cast and started to flake with reapplication. I was a little surprised since it’s a chemical sunscreen. It had a strong scent that reminds me of eucalyptus. I’ll continue to use it on my body for when I go outside for a walk, but definitely would not repurchase.

Best Sunscreen Ever!

The BGS SPF 30 Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion is my favorite sunscreen ever! My skin is dry, sensitive, and pale for reference. This sunscreen is moisturizing but not greasy, has very little smell, doesn’t sting my eyes, and produces no white cast (although I’m very pale so probably not the most valuable source for this). I’ve used it in place of my moisturizer and my skin felt great. I also forget to wash it off before bed sometimes and haven’t woken up with a breakout. The EWG rates it a 2 on their hazard score range which is really hard to find especially for a chemical sunscreen. Additionally it’s reef safe and cruelty free! I am also so happy that I can put money back into the community instead of into the hands of megacorporations and private equity firms. I really want to try the hybrid sunscreen because it’s pretty hard to find them in the US. My ONLY complaint is that it doesn’t come in a bigger bottle!

I didn't know the DPN's on my face were due to sun damage but ever since I found out, you will never catch me out in the sun unprotected. I've always hated sunscreen because they smelled so bad and left this white cast on my face so I stayed away but when I found out even as a black person that I need sunscreen I started searching for something better and I found BGS. I bough the lotion and fell in love. Smells great, no white cast and I love how moisturizing it makes my skin feel. So I thought they've got to have more products. I found out they have sprays and even sunscreen sticks. Awesome. Im going to order more to protect my beautiful black skin.
