Q: Can this be used along with Retinol or tre trentinoin? Or should it be used on night when not using?
A: Hi there! Our Discoloration Correcting Serum can be used safely with a retinoid/retinol such as Tretinoin. Our serum is gentle enough to be combined in the same routine. However, if you are utilizing a doctor prescribed Tretinoin, please check in with your physician to make sure that this fits into your current treatment regimen.

Q: I have sensitive acne-prone skin with old dark spots and texture. Will this help fade them, and is it safe to use with Black Girl Sunscreen in the morning? How long for results?
A: Hi! Good question, the serum will absolutely help with your hyperpigmentation. However, if your concern is texture, I suggest looking into our niacinamide serum or toner, as that ingredient helps with texture. I hope this helps!

Q: Is this noncommodegenic?
A: Hi! We definitely understand your concerns with the products' potential to clog pores. However, we’re hesitant about applying the non-comedogenic label to our products since there is no universal and agreed upon guideline. Comedogenic scales often vary depending on the source. When an ingredient is tested in a lab to determine the comedogenic capability, it is done in a rabbit's ear which is much more sensitive than human skin. Individual skin chemistry can determine the extent of an ingredient’s ability to clog pores, so it is highly variable between people. As such, the only way to be certain is to actually try out the product. The same ingredient when used in a different concentration or within a different formulation will vary as far as being comedogenic or not. I hope this information is helpful and please let me know if any other questions come up!

Q: Can this be used on its own to lighten hyperpigmentation
A: Thanks for reaching out and great question! The Discoloration Correcting Serum contains the actives cetyl tranexamate mesylate and niacinamide to help improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, acne marks, age spots, and sun damage over time with continuous use. The serum can be used alone after a cleanser and toner, followed by a moisturizer and daily sunscreen or it can also be used in combination with alternate brightening products.

Q: Does this work for melasma?
A: Thank you so much for this great question! Melasma can be stubborn to treat, and it can take 8-12 weeks to see a marked improvement. The best results are observed when using a combination of topical brightening agents that act on various pathways of pigment formation. The Discoloration Correcting Serum can help, when combined with additional treatments, as it is formulated to help improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, acne marks, age spots, and sun damage over time. Long-term treatment is key, as flare-ups can occur at any point, especially if Melasma is left untreated.
