If you’re here reading this review, you must be reading it to decide on whether or not you should purchase this album… and I know what you’re struggling with. All those generic, radio songs you only ever hear from Taylor Swift is the only kind of her music you have probably heard of hers! And I get it, those are… well, not the most pleasurable songs to listen to in the off time you have. Although you might find the one or two “radio-generic” songs on this album, this album is also packed with raw emotion and simple drum beats and guitar melodies. From uplifting beats to the sorrows of strings, this album takes you on a rollercoaster of pure love and pure heartbreak like you’ve never heard from an album. From the upbeat “Holy Ground” describing the feeling of first falling in love to the heart wrenching melody of “All Too Well” that will leave you screaming the lyrics as if your own heart got broken, Taylor Swift out-does any of her previous projects and even future ones with her masterpiece “Red”. It’s the kind of album you carry as your best friend when no one else can feel your pain from heartbreak, it’s the kind you remember and cherish when you listen to these songs and it takes you back to memories in your own life that her songs relate to. If you need any reason to believe Taylor Swift is much more than her main-stream media title, then look no further than her purest, rawest album she has released so far with “Red”. Not only does the album come with 16 songs on the regular version, but a whopping 22 songs on the deluxe version. All these songs are hand-written by Taylor Swift herself, don’t believe me? Well in the front of your CD case, inside the lyric booklet each song contains a hidden message from Taylor herself, spelled out in capital letters throughout the lowercase letter lyrics for each song. The great thing also about this album is that it has your variety of music genres, from your pop songs to your slow-acoustic songs with features from Gary Lightbody (Lead singer from Snow Patrol) and also Ed Sheeran. I would say this is a great price for what it’s worth, I assure you that you do not even have to like Taylor Swift as a person, or any other of her songs or music to like and appreciate this album she has crafted together. This album was released in 2012 and it is now currently 2019 and I still turn this album on as a go-to, the songs on this album still circle around my head and each time I go back to listen, I am overwhelmed by the amount of memories and feelings that each song takes me back to. Another great bonus to this album is it offers demo versions of a few songs so you can actually hear the song being brought to life from scratch by Taylor by just her using her voice and a stripped guitar. If you are looking for that ‘break-up, make-up, lose yourself and then find yourself’ all over again kind of album, here it is. If you’re looking for that relatable, singer songwriter album, here it is. If you’re looking for the song to roll down the windows of your car to and scream, This Is It. This is your all-time, go-to album. There isn’t a song on this album you WON’T find yourself falling in love with or carrying with you for years on. It’s 2019, no one buys CD’s anymore. But if you are going to buy any CD, make this be the one you do buy and won’t regret.
