Book Synopsis

The eighth book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's treasured Little House series. This edition features the classic black-and-white artwork from Garth Williams.

Laura is teaching school, and it's terrifying! Most of the students are taller than she is, and she must sleep away from home for the first time. Laura is miserable, but the money is needed to keep Mary in a college for the blind.

And every Friday--no matter what the weather--Almanzo Wilder arrives to take Laura home to her family for the weekend. Laura and Almanzo are courting, and even though she's not yet sixteen, she knows that this is a time for new beginnings.

The nine books in the timeless Little House series tell the story of Laura's real childhood as an American pioneer, and are cherished by readers of all generations. They offer a unique glimpse into life on the American frontier, and tell the heartwarming, unforgettable story of a loving family.

From the Back Cover

Fifteen-year-old Laura lives apart from her family for the first time, teaching school in a claim shanty twelve miles from home. She is very homesick, but keeps at it so that she can help pay for her sister Mary's tuition at the college for the blind. During school vacations Laura has fun with her singing lessons, going on sleigh rides, and best of all, helping Almanzo Wilder drive his new buggy. Friendship soon turns to love for Laura and Almanzo in the romantic conclusion of this Little House book.

About 6-10 pages of this book are unreadable. The spacing of each line on these 6-10 pages is 0. This is ridiculous! This is why I do not like purchasing items online, I prefer buying items in person so I can check the items myself before purchasing. By purchasing online, I expect items to be checked and double checked before being shipped! I bought this book for my daughter to complete her collection of this beloved series.

My granddaughter who is a very bright 8 year old started reading the Laura Ingalls books about 2 months ago and has been asking for continued editions for various occasional gifts. She was very happy to receive this one and started reading it upon receipt.
