Murphy Oil Soap is a trusted choice for safely cleaning wood and a variety of surfaces in your home. Made with 99% natural ingredients (1), is dye free, and has 0% phosphates. Directions: Dilute ¼ cup Murphy in 1 gallon warm water. For heavy cleaning, dilute ½ cup Murphy per 1 gallon warm water. Clean well with wrung-out mop, and mop any excess water. No visible residue, no rinsing required. Bring back the old formula

Horrible scent. Used Murphy’s oil soap for years and this change is horrendous. Smells like bug spray. Loved the way it cleaned and smelled after cleaning. This is terrible. Bring back the original formula

Love this product ❤️

I love this soap. ❤️ Have been using this product for over 50 years and it never disappoints. My mom used it for many years too back when it came in a can and you could just scoop it out with your fingers. I currently work at a church and this is THE only product I use on the pews and floors. They first supplied centas products but nothing compares to Murphy's oil soap

Poison ? Make better choices

Used to be safe using this .. now I am scared of what is in it. It sure doesn’t clean anything. Every company has dumped safety to poison us. Zero stars. Made me get congested and felt like an asthma attack.

Fraudulent use of a time tested brand

Quality always suffers when big chemical gets involved. The original formula was a rich amber golden color, this garbage is pale yellow and worthless.. I bought 3 bottles but will be returning the other 2 bottles. Zero stars for the bait and switch ethics

Sad to see the change.

Used to be a great product. The new formula is nothing like the original. I and 5 generations of tattooers in my line have used the original for decades during part of the cleaning procedure due to its old 98% natural ingredients. I was very sad to see it go. The new formula is not suitable at all anymore. Please bring the old formula back.

Bad product!

I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the product - I thought I bought the wrong thing which is why I am on the website to see what the difference was in the two products. I am talking about what they called wood soap and now this wood cleaner. It is not the same and does not work like the wood soap. Bring the old product back because that is what built your company /. Why would you take that away. You had a good product and now you are making a product that doesn’t do the job. I am force to look for another product with another company so you lost a customer. And I do a lot of wood projects and I used your wood soap all the time.

I refinished antique furniture and finished with linseed oil. 35 years ago. I refreshed it with Murphy Oil Soap to a wonderful rich mahogany. 2026.

How to take a proven and time tested product and ruin it. First of all, it's obviously not the original formula it's been reformulated. The current product is much thinner in consistency. The older product was thicker and had a darker color. Why didn't they just leave it alone?

Trusted Product for Antique Woodwork

I have used this wonderful product for years and have only good things to say about it! My home is over 125 years old with lots of original woodwork. Mixing up a container with diluted Murphy’s Oil Soap is an easy way to keep the wood clean and looking great! I trust this product and it does not disappoint. I also love that it has a pleasant scent and does not require a rinse.

Beyond Disappointed.

Soooooo incredibly disappointed with the change in the formula. If zero stars were an option, I would’ve chosen that. I have used this product for years and years in a variety of ways on floors, wood, and on all my leather products. I didn’t realize they had changed the formula until I cleaned my saddle with it and it completely ruined the finish. Dried it out and made it look bleached. Also left my floors, dull, and hazy.So I started looking things up and realized they had changed the formula. No idea why you would change something that worked so amazingly well. Definitely won’t buy it again. I hope the company comes to their senses and brings the original, actual original formula back. The labeling is extremely misleading.

I agree 100% with LauraN and Jsdj: ie, the Murhpy's oil soap you sell now (for the last few years) is nothing like the old formula. Frankly, you're flat out lying when you make the statement indicating otherwise. It is not at all the same. I've used Murhpy's oil soap for literally 4 decades, for cleaning all of our horses' tack, our boots, and for cleaning all wood surfaces. You used to offer it in a tub, in a thick gel/paste. The liquid back then was good, too. What you are selling now is watery, smells different, and worst of all - it DRIES OUT the leather instead of conditioning it, and dries out the wood, too. If the current owner of the product, Colgate-Palmolive, bought Murphy's Oil Soap brand from the original creator, then C-P needs go back and find the original formula and remove the junk that's on the shelves now. I will not be buying it again, and am alerting our horse owning friends and clients to not use it on their tack or wood. We'd really appreciate you finding and going back to the original formula.... We miss the good old original stuff.

Very disappointed

My first try using this product. It left my vintage solid oak table dull and sticky. I followed the directions using a damp clean cloth but this is disgusting. I was proud of this table. Glad I only bought the small bottle - less money wasted. Yuck.

Do not use in a boat!

I bought a new bottle for my boat. Now I have to find a product to care for my teak below decks. This formula causes a light dusting of mold to grow in high humidity conditions. The original formula was perfect, this is useless.

Best laundry booster

I have used murphys oil directly on grease stains on clothing and they come out every time. Not only does it remove laundry stains, but deodorizes musty/smelly laundry. I use it on all of my flooring too!

New vs old Formula

I have always used Mrs. Murphy soap for all of the wood floors/furniture and even removing oil/stains from clothes before washing. Now with the new look/same formula, it’s hardly the same formula. It’s watered down, less thick, need to use more than the original. Disappointing. I understand marketing with change but it’s NOT the same. Even comparing my old original to the new original, the difference is huge. Please reconsider your marketing or formula….bottom line is profit but quality is worth more…

Brought the wood back to its natural beauty!

A friend just gave me a very old wood cockoo clock. It is beautiful, but very dusty and dirty. I knew Murphy’s was my go to for cleaning it. I diluted the soap with water, and cleaned the clock with a soft bristle brush. It came out far better than expected. It shines beautifully! The whole family has commented on how stunning this old clock looks, and all I did was carefully clean it with diluted Murphy’s! Thanks for this awesome product. Now I’ll start the clock repair.
