Q: Are these shelves white on the bottom? I have older ones that are the particle board (wood) tone underneath and I want to use one at the top of a closet.
A: The horizontal pieces are only white on the top, unfortunately. The bottom is plain, brownish particleboard

A: The screws are on either end of the box hidden.

Q: Is the total height of both shelves 11.6" or is each shelf 11.6"?
A: The total height of the unit (both shelves) is 11.6”. Each space between is 5” high. So anything taller than 5” would need to be placed on the top shelf.
