Polypropylene sometimes has a plastic smell (especially the clear products) when first purchased that dissipates fairly rapidly once the product is unpacked and put to use. Washing with a lemon scented or grease fighting detergent and rinsing thoroughly helps dispel any noticeable odor. Detergents sometimes adhere to plastics and you will want to wipe and rinse well. Air or towel dry.

A: I have experienced this toxic odor from many of the plastic storage boxes. It goes away as long as the lid is left off.
