Book Synopsis

In this hilarious, low-spice rom-com, a librarian falls for a book-nerd . . . the only problem is they are an ocean apart. Authentically, Izzy is told mostly through emails, texts, and letters and is sure to leave readers with a lighter heart. Perfect for fans of Sarah Adams and Emma St. Clair.

Dear Reader,

My name is Isabelle Louisa Edgewood--Izzy, for short. I live by blue-tinted mountains, where I find contentment in fresh air and books. Oh, and coffee and tea, of course. And occasionally in being accosted by the love of my family. (You'll understand my verb choice in the phrase later.) I dream of opening my own bookstore, but my life, particularly my romantic history, has not been the stuff of fairy tales. Which is probably why my pregnant, misled, matchmaking cousin--who, really, is more like my sister--signed me up for an online dating community.

The trouble is . . . it worked. I've met my book-quoting Mr. Right, and our correspondence has been almost too good to be true. But Brodie lives across an ocean. And just the other day, a perfectly nice author and professor named Eli came into the library where I work and asked me out for a coffee. I feel a rom-com movie with a foreboding disaster nipping at my heels.

But I've played it safe for a long time. Maybe it's time for me to be as brave as my favorite literary heroines. Maybe it's time to take the adventures from the page to real life. Wish me luck.

Authentically,

Izzy

Escape into this fun love letter to books and the people who love them. You'll be sure to laugh out loud and swoon for bookish Brodie as you feel the weight lifted from your shoulders with this sweet, low-spice but high sizzle rom-com.

Another Pepper Basham story to love!

If you like all things bookish coupled with sweater vests and swoony accents, then you will love this email/text, slow build, worth waiting for love story. I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy a modern spun epistolary novel written in emails and texts instead of letters. I should have known that Pepper Basham would slay this project too. I also tend to gravitate toward historical settings over contemporary ones but who can stay away from a fun-loving story with a playful cover and quirky, book-loving MCs? Better yet, this story also grips your heart with familial themes and complicated relationships. So, I am done for! The Edgewood progeny have moved into my reading circle and set up camp on my bookshelves! I simply must know more! Penelope and Luke must strike out toward their own love matches and introduce them to me before I am fully satisfied. I have a strong suspicion that Penelope will be “singing” toward her love for a leading man while Luke will aptly and without any nonsense “build” a relationship with an unexpected lady. I can’t wait to read more! This book is suitable for teens and older with no inappropriate intimate scenes and no bad language. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

What an adorable story! Authentically, Izzy is a unique, epistolary style story that I loved. The story begins with an email between Izzy and her cousin, Josephine all about Izzy's lack of a love life. The back and forth between Izzy and her three cousins is delightful. When Izzy meets Brodie online, their connection is immediate and witty. The bookish references are super fun and I loved them! There's something very intimate about reading a story full of letters. Reading someone's private thoughts. It's a little like reading a person's journal. There's so much to learn about how a person is truly feeling, what they're experiencing, or how they're learning when reading this way. Also, when a character describes discovering a new place for the first time. Ugh, I'm dying to visit the Blue Ridge Mountains...and maybe even a trip across the pond! So beautiful! This story really is a delight! I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.

Fun, Entertaining Read

Wow! I love this book! Before I chose it, I was not sure how I felt about the epistolary format (story told mostly through correspondence); however, as a long time Pepper Basham fan, I had to give it a try. I am so glad I did! Ms. Basham demonstrates her amazing imagination, excellent storytelling skill, and writing prowess in creating this delightful, heartwarming read! It didn’t take me long to get used to the format and get totally immersed in the story. I love Izzy and Brodie, the “perfect bookish duo” as dubbed by Brodie’s mother. I enjoyed the way their relationship develops as they correspond then meet face-to-face. In all the correspondence and interactions between Izzy and her cousins, I could feel the love they have for each other which sometimes leads to a little meddling—so realistic. A wonderful cast of characters, sweet romance, numerous laugh-out-loud moments, and a plethora of bookish quotes and references make this a fun, entertaining reading experience. Amid the humor, romance, and fun family dynamics, the story also includes some valuable truths about the importance of authenticity as Izzy learns to (quote) “grab the reins” of her own life and be who she is meant to be instead of being what she thinks other people want her to be. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I think lovers of all things bookish will adore this cleverly plotted, feel-good story! I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Publishers via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Contemporary Love Story

Authentically, Izzy is an epistolary novel, one of only two or three that I have read. I must admit, it is not my favorite book structure, but it worked for this fun, contemporary novel. The book is largely made up of digital communication between Izzy, her cousins, and a book-loving guy she met through an online dating site. While this grandma of four didn't relate to many things in this story of contemporary dating, I could relate to the love of books, reading them and sharing them. I also related to the importance of being true to oneself, and the wonder of falling in love. Pepper Basham infuses this story with a lot of humor, largely in the banter between siblings and cousins. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of Authentically, Izzy from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley without obligation. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a lighthearted love story. All opinions expressed here are my own.

"Isn't loving someone being comfortable with who they are by being exactly who you are?" Even if you aren't a fan of epistolary writing, you will absolutely love this book. Full of fantastic humor, laugh-out-loud moments, tender vulnerability, amazing characters, and real-life faith, the book will capture your heart. Throw in tons of book and movie references and delicious banter and you have a perfect romcom to curl up with on a cold afternoon. I love Pepper Basham's books and this one is her best romantic comedy yet (which is saying A LOT)! It's amazing how the plot flows and we get to know the characters so well through written email and text exchanges. Izzy's relationship with her cousins is enviable but she does harbor deep insecurities and doubts that only surface towards the end. Her creativity, authenticity, and love for others are so refreshing and genuine. And Brodie.... he's a keeper! His awkwardness, bookish nerdiness, soul-deep passion and commitment to family and legacy and dreams, and tender and astute love for Izzy are endearing and make him the perfect hero. Izzy and Brodie's story had me grinning from ear to ear the whole time, with tears of sympathy and joy interspersed. And we so desperately need Luke and Anders and Brynna's stories soon.....and I can't wait to read Penelope's own happily-ever-after. I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

A contemporary fairytale for book lovers everywhere, Authentically Izzy combines humor, literary references, and faith-filled lessons to entertain readers. It is a phenomenal creative work and a stellar read! The well-executed epistolary format when hero and heroine are corresponding across an ocean transitions seamlessly to a wonderful narrative when they are together in person. Full of truth, this book speaks to singleness, trusting in God’s plan for your life, and the excitement of an unknown future. I found myself highlighting a good portion of this book because it had so many profound points that spoke to my soul. As icing on the cake, this book is chock full of book and movie references to delight fandoms across all genres. Pepper Basham consistently delivers captivating stories with relatable characters, steamy yet clean romance, and a good dose of humor--- and Authentically Izzy is no exception! I received a complimentary copy of this book for review purposes. My thoughts are my own—I really did love it!
