Trust no one in the shadows of the piney woods . . .Letty Hood has spent the last fifteen years of her life hidden away with her grandmother in the backwoods of east Texas to escape the deadly schemes of an uncle who wants her dead. Now, with her twenty-first birthday on the horizon, she is forced to accept the escort of a stranger and return to Houston in secret so she can claim a birthright that will make her one of the wealthiest women in Texas. If she lives long enough to inherit.
Pinkerton agent Philip Carmichael has one duty: get the Radcliffe heiress home alive. Expecting a spoiled girl, Philip is surprised to encounter a woman of rare strength with a kind soul and keen wit. As they journey together, Letty's resilience wins his admiration, breaking through his hardened cynicism. Yet the threat to her survival grows more menacing with every mile, and Philip fears that keeping Letty out of harm's way may be just as impossible as keeping her out of his heart.

Cloaked in Beauty is the third book in Karen Witmeyer’s Texas Ever After series. This story is a fun mixture of Little Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty. It was fun to look for details about the well-known fairy tales. I enjoyed each book in this series, but Cloaked in Beauty won for my favorite. Let me tell you why. Letty Hood is a strong and capable heroine. No whining or pity parties with this lady! I loved her grit and the depth of her heart. Maybe it’s because we have similar spirits. I would love to spend most of my days in God’s Creation with my favorite pup, too! Philip is a swoon-worthy hero without needing to apply any swagger or seductive charms. I loved the respect he had for Letty. And his rock-solid foundation of faith, honor, and loyalty is enough to make any princess turn her head. And, as always, I love how Karen weaves faith elements into her story. They are never preachy, but always encouraging and often challenging. I love seeing Scripture intermixed with her words, so even while I’m caught up in her beautiful story tale, I’m still grounded in the Truth. Overall, I’d highly recommend Cloaked in Beauty and the entire Texas Ever After series. They are all stand-alone books, so you don’t have to read them in order. Just make sure you have one at the top of your TBR!

Author Karen Witemeyer's newest book is another fairytale retelling in a Western setting: part Little Red Riding Hood, part Sleeping Beauty, and I absolutely loved it! It has an unselfish mother, an evil uncle, and a young girl deprived of her mother's love for over fifteen years. I was touched by Leah Radcliffe's determination to protect her daughter, even if it meant not knowing where she was during those long years. Finally, Leah enlists the help of the Pinkerton Detective Agency to find Scarlett, but will their efforts be too late? Looking for an action-packed adventure, swoon-worthy romance. and unforgettable characters? Grab a copy of Cloaked in Beauty. This historical Christian romance is a wonderful addition to the Texas Ever After series! I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.
