Q: Why is my Baby Einstein Octoplush speaking French. I bought it for my grandson for Christmas and my daughter-in-law just told me it speaks French. Is there away that I can change the language to English on this toy?

submitted by MsJohnson1 - 4 years ago
  • A: Thank you for the question! You can easily swap between English, Spanish and French so your little linguist can hear the colors in multiple languages using the language selector switch.

Very cute and educational but is faulty

I have replaced this Octoplush 3 times now and each time it has lasted for about 2 weeks and then the sound components stop working. Regardless of the tentacles you press it will start to play the sound and then cuts to the initial start up melody. My son loves it when it works but I'm tired of replacing this faulty octopus!

My daughter loves this toy, but it scares me. No matter where it is it will just say "yellow" randomly. Nothing can be near it or touching it and it has scared me too many times. But we keep it for her :)

My son was gifted this when he was a few months old and he still loves it at 1. It teaches him his colors and he likes the music it plays. We haven’t had to change the batteries at all and still works great.

Really cute toy. Plays music and says colors. Same problem as others where it doesn’t work completely. You have to push the button nearly 5-6 times to get music to play. The colors still work.

I bought this for my 3-month-old niece on a whim - and it has become the go-to toy for car trips, doctor visits, and mid-day meltdowns. It's THAT good. She's now 9-months-old and loves it just as much as she did a half-year ago. Highly recommend :)

Brown button is incorrect and sensitive

In the Spanish setting it doesn’t say “café” for brown. That brown button is awfully sensitive to. Literally any time you touch the octopus it says “maroon” (when it should say café).

My daughter was gifted this toy when she turned 1. She will be turning 3 in February. It is still a toy she plays with and now so does her brother. We haven’t had to change the batteries at all. The toy itself is very soft and great to hug. The songs are very calming and not very short. I would buy this again.

This adorable little octopus plays music for your little one when you squeeze his head and, when you squeeze his tentacles, he’ll tell you the name of the color featured on that tentacle (each tentacle has a different colored object, i.e. red cherries) My baby has loved this toy since he was a newborn! He always enjoyed looking at it and watching as I’d make the octopus “dance” while the music played, but now that he’s older, he likes pressing the buttons himself to hear the colors spoken aloud. I periodically switch the language setting for some early exposure to French and Spanish, but leave it on English most of the time since this is the language we speak in our home. Changing the language is really easy to do. It’s just a switch on the battery pack. You know the toys that make it so hard to access the battery pack? NOT THIS ONE! It’s just behind a Velcro section on the back of the octopus’s head (2 AA). Easy. (We use rechargeable batteries from Duracell and Energizer) THIS TOY IS GREAT FOR * color recognition (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, white) * vocabulary (cherries, flower, star, leaf, cloud, grapes, bear, snowflake) * language skills (identifying objects and colors) * foreign language exposure (English, French, Spanish) * classical music exposure (plays selections from 4 different songs) Music Details For you music lovers out there...or detail-oriented people like me, the songs and composers are: -Violin Concerto in A Major (“Die Relinge”)- Telemann -12 Contradances for Orchestra- Beethoven -Serenade No. 6 in D Major, K.239 (“Serenata Notturna”)- Mozart -Concerto in D Major, RV93, 3rd Movement- Vivaldi For more toy and baby product reviews, check out my Instagram: @life.with.mama.bear

Stops working quickly

This toy was great, and my daughter really enjoyed it, but it’s stopped working. The songs the head plays only pay for a moment before ending, and the colors on the legs don’t work at all. They play part of an ending to one of the songs from the head. Super disappointed to come here and read several reviews of the same issues going back a few years. Won’t be buying another, it’s a waste of money.

This item has beautiful music that plays a good variety of songs. The item is easy to hold and and the colors on the tentacles are also a great detail. However, I did have to return the original one I purchased because it had a short in it (not solved by new batteries) that causes it to repeat the word, “red” over and over and over again until it was turned off. Target was great and exchanged the item for me even thought we had thrown out the box.

We all loved this toy until it stopped working after a few months. Replacing the batteries didn't fix the problem. Very disappointed since it should have lasted much longer than that! I can see this happens to a lot of people so something definitely needs to be improved.
