A: To operate our child-resistant BIC® Multi-purpose Extra Long Lighter, follow these steps:
1) hold the utility lighter with your thumb resting on the latch and your index finger on the trigger,
2) depress the latch with the tip of your thumb and hold in, and
3) pull the trigger with your index finger.
The child-resistant mechanism will automatically reset after each use.

The child-proof ignite is so difficult to use, it took me 3 minutes to figure out how to work it....then required two hands to have the strength to manipulate it.... I support child-safe, by all means....but...If I can't light it, I can't use it. I will look for another product that I (a 70-year-old lady ) can figure our more easily and can start without the strength of Hercules.

TOTALLY WORTHLESS!!! The first night I couldn't get ANY flame. The next night it took me 10 minutes to get it to work long enough to light 2 candles. Tonight only 1 candle after 10-20 tries. This used to be a good product. Now it's worthless.

company stop buying materials that break easily and go back to making things that last longer.
bought it on Dec 8 use it and it worked, the 2nd time I tried to use it was Dec 14 and it stopped working all together. since when do lighters stop working longer like everything should be. company sure love making everything break in just a few days just so we can waste more money. not a good look for your consumer.

The Ergonomics of BIC lighter is very poor.
#1: The SAFETY BUTTON is at an angle making it hard to push. #2: The PIEZO TRIGGER is hard to pull. #3: The PLASTIC is very slick making it hard to grip. #4: The FLAME is not adjustable. #5: The FLAME is too yellow indicating poor air to fuel mix. THE GOOD: #1: The flexible nozzle. (The nozzle was the reason I purchased it)

Doesn't work and NO instructions
I bought one at the grocery store. They were half price. It doesn't work. I found a video on YouTube showing how to use it. (I had already tried that, but thought there might be another step.) Instructions do not come with the lighter (only warnings) nor on their website. Terrible.

No flame control
The flame is way too big and there's no flame control. This saves BIC money on tge manufacturing line, but wastes butane and will need to be replaced sooner. Next time I'll buy Scripto long lighters.

Quality Issues
The overall quality of the lighters are the reason I’m only rating this a so-so purchase. One of the large lighters was very hard to light (very stiff mechanism) and if it was windy forget it. I use these to burn trash and yard waste and after only using the lighter a handful of times I added it to the fire pit as well as it just would not light.

Poor quality
This took super strength to get it to flicker on. I was charged $4.79 and when I went to return it the price showed $3.99 and that it was a different model. I was unable to get my full price back. Granted this is not a lot of money but it is the principle of issue here. Clearly it was the exact item I had purchased when I looked up my online order it was listed ast $4.79. Rather frustrating.

"Safety" Feature Makes Usage Almost Impossible
I get it: Legal and an overzealous team of engineers probably designed this safety feature (the incredibly stiff thumb lever) to reduce liability arising from child hands getting ahold of the lighters and starting a fire. But my own thumb is absolutely throbbing right now from trying to keep that stupid lever depressed while squeezing the trigger with my index finger long enough to actually light a campfire. I gave up. There will be no campfire. It's a lighter. You've over-engineered and overthought it. As a mechanical engineer, I have a high confidence in my observation and statement. Enough already.

I used this lighter so much for many different things, and it worked great. Yet, the lighter looks great, like it would work great, but has not gas. So... it seems like a big waste not being able to refill it... is that it? This item would be perfect if we could refill it.
