About the Book
A child finds her own way to enjoy the ski hill with the help of her energetic dog in this brightly illustrated picture book.Book Synopsis
Celebrating the supportive relationship between a child and her dog, this story reminds us that, with resilience and courage, we can find our own way through something new and scary.
Billie liked visiting the mountains when she could be pulled in a sled, but Mom says she's big enough to try ski lessons instead this time. Billie doesn't like going fast and finds the hill too steep. When she notices a poster for dogsledding, Billie decides she and her dog, Bean, can make their own fun on the slopes. But when Bean is startled by some falling snow, Billie is left all alone in the cold. Finding her courage and staying calm, Billie realizes she wasn't as alone as she thought and finds her way to Bean and Mom.
Review Quotes
"In the third charmer in the Billie and Bean book series, young Billie flexes her independence once again."
-- "Shelf Awareness""Billie and Bean in the Mountains would be a nice addition to a winter story time or as something to read with a young adventurer curled up on an adult lap. Billie's independent spirit shines through again in this visit to the mountains. Recommended."
-- "CM: Canadian Review of Materials""Colorfully detailed pencil-and-watercolor illustrations contain engaging detail, and little ones will enjoy looking for that glowing creature elsewhere in the scenes. Incorporating low-stakes drama, relatable experiences, and a touch of wonder, this ultimately reassuring story sympathetically portrays how facing fears and persevering through challenges isn't always easy but can lead to unexpected positive experiences, not to mention fun."
-- "Booklist""Captures the uncertainties and triumphs of childhood, all of which may seem small to adults but are larger-than-life to youngsters. The crisp yet gentle illustrations make terrific use of color and perspective. Another just-right adventure with this appealing duo, sure to reassure and embolden the very young."
