Description

Expanding the Hybrid RF Zoom lens series, Canon is proud to introduce the Canon RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z lens, an internal zooming and focusing model, supporting the use of RF Extender 1.4x and 2x throughout the 70-200 zoom range. This lens is an incredible telephoto zoom solution for many different applications. An optional, dedicated Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 transforms the video operation possibilities with its smooth and versatile zooming. Even in low light, this lens will excel for weddings and events, photojournalism, portraiture, studio work, and video creation. It is available in white thermal barrier paint. Outstanding Optical Performance with Consistent f/2.8 Maximum ApertureBy taking advantage of the large diameter RF mount and short back focus, the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is able to achieve a maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its entire zoom range. This enables you to continuously shoot up to the frequently used 200mm without switching lenses, opening a world of possibilities for both photo and movie shooting. This new lens is compatible with both RF1.4x and RF2.0x Extenders for even more range of 280mm and 400mm respectively. Supports Optional Canon Power Zoom AdaptersThe RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z crosses the worlds of photography and movies. The optional Power Zoom Adapters PZ-E2 and PZ-E2B enable smooth, high-precision zoom control during movie shooting, that can even be operated remotely with the Canon Camera Connect and EOS Utility apps. Plus, attachment and detaching can be managed without the use of a special tool. The Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2B comes equipped with a 20-pin port for compatibility with cinema or broadcast lens accessories such as the Digital Zoom Demand ZSD-300D or the Digital Focus Demand FPD-400D. This lens and Power Zoom Adapter combination makes unassisted single-person video shooting operation easy and within reach.Eleven Aperture Blades for Rich BokehWith eleven aperture blades and a large f/2.8 aperture, the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z produces a beautiful, almost circular bokeh effect - even when stopped-down, thanks to an 11-blade aperture. The wide aperture also allows for faster shutter speeds in low-light situations and helps prevent subject blurs.Iris Ring for Precise Lens Aperture ControlThe RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z is equipped with an iris ring (for aperture control). This allows videographers and photographers to manually control exposure adjustment and the degree of background blur while shooting, with click-less, smooth operation - similar to the operability in a cinema lens.Close-Focusing of 1.6 Feet with Maximum Magnification of 0.2xWith a minimum focusing distance of approximately 1.6 feet (0.49m), the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z lens helps you get close to your subjects. The maximum magnification of 0.3x at 200mm allows you to capture subtle details more expansively and clearly. Focus shifts during zooming are minimal - plus, it supports focus breathing correction, in which the camera digitally corrects for changes in the angle of view caused by focus movement during video recording, especially during closeup shooting..

Pull the trigger!

I was on the fence for some time but finally decided to pull the trigger, and I am so glad I did. This lens is incredible....I use this with my R5. I am not a pro. I love photography and my kids both play college sports (my daughter plays volleyball and my son is a pitcher). I have become the team photographer by default. I also love nature photography.....ok, with that said, let's talk about this lens. It is fast! GREAT focus and ULTRA sharp. My images are so clean, and 2.8 makes it great....I'm sure you have read multiple reviews, as I did. One thing they did not mention is that the ability to zoom in and out quickly, steadily and with one finger allows me to catch some really great action shots. It didn't take much practice to get this down, but it made a HUGE difference in being able to move the camera from pitcher to outfield to 1st bast, etc. I can shoot in electronic shutter and get just the right shot. Paired with the 2x converter, I have pretty much all I need...and the ability to shoot at 400mm at 5.6 is really great. The images are spectacular and the bokeh is great. Image stabilization seemed unnecessary to me until I put the 2x....what a difference! The only realistic negative (cost is a negative, but now that I have used it for a couple of months, it was worth it!) is the weight, especially with the 2x. Between the camera, grip, etc., this gets heavy, especially when we have double headers. Get a good monopod and your life will get much better (and your arm will thank you). I can easily say this is the best lens I have ever purchased. It is so good that I'm strongly considering the 24-70 Z (maybe next year). This lens has taken me to the next level. It is a game changer!

New to this lens, but love the internal focusing. Lots of experience with the older EF70-200 lens, so a bit of an adjustment to learn new positions for focus and zoom rings. Seems to integrate well with the R5M2.

This was my first 70-200mm lens. And it’s definitely worth it. Used it for the first time during the Bank of America Chicago Shamrock Shuffle. And because of the new improvements on this lens. Might keep rate was by far greater than many other lenses in my arsenal. Even at the start of the race, when the lighting was low. The majority of my pictures were keepers. The hardest part now, is picking the best of.

Finally upgraded from the EF 70-200 F2.8 L MII to the RF Z version and what a difference. Super sharp, super quiet, super fast, lighter, and the collar rotation is super smooth. Subject tracking and switching focus from one subject to another is much faster. Well worth the price.
