Delicious stuff. Anybody who wrote a negative review because they couldn't figure out how to open a jar, or don't know that substances will separate according to their density when sitting on a shelf, are complete morons. Don't like how oil and a chalky, solid mix will separate? Then mix it up and put it in water or broth like you're supposed to! It's not the company's fault that you're too stupid to open a jar and don't understand the concept of mixing things together with a fork.

I'm learning how to use Dona Maria moles as a base sauce

It's a shame that all the reviews are from novices (like me) who don't know what they're buying & can't open a jar effectively. they didn't get past the basics.. (sigh). One thing I look for is how to use each of the varieties as a base mole as a _starter_; warm in a pan with a bit of stock or water, and to find what else to add to it to develop more flavor levels in the what I finally serve. For the red mole: I'll add extra unsweetned cocoa powder, and some additional toasted ground chiles, plus grated partial tab of Ibarra chocolate. `turns out pretty good. :) `usually I wind up with far more sauce than the jar/glass starts with; and have learned to enjoy this more & more.. Hoping to learn as i "earn" my set of glasses.. Please don't change that packaging to cheap plastic! :)

Little help on how to open it

The oil is normal, you have to be very careful when opening it, I do it with a bottle opener. Then I put the oil in the blender, stick a knife through the edges all around and drop directly into the blender, and add boiling water and, all the spices you need to complete it. Unless you want it simple like that.

I made the pressure cooker mole chicken and it was great. Yes, the mole comes out with the liquid on the top and the hard mole underneath. Open the jar CAREFULLY. I followed the recipe exactly as was written and it was absolutely perfect. I stirred in a little brown sugar at the end and WOW..it was excellent. Since only 2 of us, I have enough for tacos, burritos bowls, enchiladas and more. Thank you, I will buy again.

First time user and I was dumb struck with the fact that underneath the pool of oil on top, the adobo was hard as a rock and I couldn't even get any out. I thought for sure this had to be a mistake. Yuck:/ ended up leaving it out of my recipe all together and won't buy this again.

I've bought your dona maria adobo sauce twice now and both times I couldn't get the lid off and then it made a mess trying to get the lid off. Also the first time I purchased this item and refrigerated it, it became hard. Please make your kids much easier to get off especially without making a big mess. Then I would buy this product again

Too salty and Bland! As someone who makes Mole frequently I was not a fan of the flavor. It has a chalky taste, and the flavor is nowhere near homemade mole. I can tell that some spices were added but the over all flavor is unpalatable. I chose this because I was running behind schedule and someone recommended this to me. When I fed this to my family I got roasted hella hard… Needless to say this is the last time I’m taking short cuts

I bought this for a recipe and after opening the jar- upon popping the second of the three points the lid flew off and oil (?) got all over my counter and floor- the rest of the sauce was rock hard and dry. Does this mean it's gone bad? Or wasn't sealed all the way? The best by date is 2 years from now. Now I have to figure out something else for dinner at the last minute.

For everyone complaining this mole paste has to be scooped out with a spoon it does feel a little stiff but that’s how this paste has always been just throw if I. The blender with chicken stock or water and walaaaaa! Make sure you let it simmer on a pan the add your chicken and enjoy !! Super easy !! If you want to be more fancy go on YouTube tons of videos on other stuff you can add to this to make it even tastier! Yumm!!!

Hard rocky substance on the bottom with a liquid on top. What is the cause of that? Is it normal?

It's a hard paste, yep! There is oil sitting on the top, yep! That's the way it's supposed to be, and it's been this way for decades! Please familiarize yourself with the product if you haven't used it before. Go online, look at recipes, there's probably even a YouTube video. I boil my chicken with garlic & onion, then add salt. Use barely enough water to cover the chicken. I put 4 cups of that broth aside to make Mexican rice with. Use that remaining broth to dilute the sauce. I've been mashing it by hand, but will try using a blender based on someone else's suggestion. I add tomato paste and Abuela's chocolate. It always turns out great! I was opening my jar in the sink because I always made a mess. Thankfully, my husband read the instructions on the top of the jar that tells you to lift up where the three triangles are!

READ BEFORE YOU BUY! Before purchasing this please keep in mind that is a PASTE, a BASE for you sauce. The consistency is hard and the too WILL have oil, this is normal. As per jar instructions, you must add water or chicken stock. I added the chicken stock I used to cook my chicken. Also, opening is not hard at all. The top of the jar has a triangle, you have to lift up the three corners and it will open easily. Remember this is not a ready to serve mole!
