Bay leaves are widely used in Mexican and Latin American cuisine to add fragrance and flavor. They have a sharp, bitter taste alone, but the aroma it adds to a dish can be somewhat similar to that of oregano or thyme. Bay leaves can also be crushed or ground before cooking.

Have tried many brands of Bay leaves over the years and the El Guapo are positively THE BEST I have ever cooked with. The leaves are large, dry but not brittle and are very, very aromatic. My own home grown Bay Laurel shrub's leaves were quite good, but not nearly as aromatic. I just wish these were more generally available at grocery stores in my area - I have to drive out of my way to buy these.

The price is nice, my bag was mostly whole leaves but they were caked in dirt. Threw away most of the bag.

Very few whole leaves in the package. Mostly crushed pieces. I can't see using these in a soup or stew. How would you fish out all of the little pieces?
