Description

Book Synopsis

At the entrance to the temple of Apollo in Delphi, one could read the maxim "Know thyself", which answered one of the questions that troubled the philosophers of antiquity: what is the most important thing that human beings can learn? Self-knowledge was the fundamental requirement. With the idea that myths can be a path to introspection, and that Olympus is not just a mythical place, but a real state of consciousness, this book offers a new look at those ancient Greco-Roman tales, in tune with the traditional quest for discernment. In an entertaining and rigorous way, Elena Almirall Arnal analyzes the symbolism and teachings that exist behind the legendary stories of eighteen archetypal figures (from Narcissus, Prometheus or Persephone, to Psyche, Odysseus or Danae) and relates them to the wisdom of all times and places. The result is a different, sapiential and practical reading of classical myths.
