FAO Schwarz Make-Believe Bakery Oven Cookie Decorating Clay Play Set

The oven is cardboard, but more importantly the clay is so sticky it cannot be rolled or formed. Sticks to clothes and hands... What a mess!

My daughter got this as a gift and the “clay” was like foam. You can’t mold it or flatten or anything which according tot he reviews this is better than the sticky stuff people received . Anyway we used our own play doh and threw out the “clay included”

All doh/slime/whatever substance the icing is supposed to be came in all different messes of textures or was dried out.

Purchased for Christmas 2022. Cute toy; however, the putty ruined clothes and carpet. Had to take clothes to the dry cleaner. I never leave reviews but don’t want another family to have this experience.

Horrible, sticky, disappointing mess.

As you can see the picture is from the trash can because the “clay” was unusable. Very disappointed for the price. We will be using our own play dough with the pieces but I would have rather just bought play dough accessories if I knew this would be the quality of the clay! And the amount of time to clean up the disaster such a headache.

Deserves zero stars. Don’t buy it! The goo is IMPOSSIBLE to clean. I ended up throwing away all the baking tools because the goo would not come off and it would get on everything. Basically paid money to throw it in the garbage after opening it. I’ve bought some crappy toys for my kid but this one takes the cake as the worst one.

This stuff is more like slime. It's unusable. We plan on using the kit, which is pretty cute, with regular Playdoh. We expected better quality from this brand.

We received this toy as a gift. The clay/playdough was sooo sticky!! It was unusable. The paint and oil was separated and swimming on top of the containers. The dough stuck to the wooden cookies that came with the set. It sticks to everything! Like I said, it's unusable. The rest of the play set is really good quality. So I just threw away the clay that came with the toy and washed out the containers. I made my own homemade play doh and put that in the containers instead. I guess if you had regular store bought plahdoh laying around, you can use that too but I didn't have any and my kid wanted to play right away so we just made some. For such a good quality toy like this, I can't believe how horrible the playdoh is that came with it. If it wasn't a gift, I don't think I would buy it at all. But if you got it already use my trick of washing the containers and putting regular plahdoh or homemade playdoh in there instead.

This set is cute - I really like the wood cookies and tray along with all the tools. The downfall is the “clay” which is somewhere between slime and foam. It’s unusable as cookie decoration because when you roll the substance out it sticks to both the rolling pin and the surface you’re rolling it on. To best describe it, imagine a wet bread dough before it’s kneaded so it’s super sticky. It’s a nightmare to get off of things and requires a lot of rolling off of items and/or using a ball of the substance to pat against itself quickly and hopefully pull off of the table or tool instead of the other way around. As if the above wasn’t enough, the product separates out to components such that the dye settles to the bottom of the cup. If you happen to pull the “clay” all out there will be a straight dye pool available to spread everywhere and the part of the substance at the bottom will have straight dye on it, ready to stain your child’s hands and anything they touch. The oven box is also a problem given that it’s made of cardboard. My little girl was so excited to open it that she tore the box open while my back was turned to get some scissors. Now the oven is missing one side. So sad because that was a really cool touch. If they would have just constructed the box out of something more sturdy it would have been perfect. Perhaps the worst part of this nightmare comes when you read the label on the “clay”. It reads: “Contains polyvinyl alcohol, acrylic acid, glycerol, isobutane, 2,2-oxybisethanol CAUTION: Read instruction manual before using. May cause eye irritation and damage to clothing. After skin contact, wash with water and soap and rinse thoroughly. In case of eye contact, rinse opened eye for several minutes under running water. In case of accidental ingestion, immediately call a doctor and drink lots of water and get fresh air. If symptoms persist seek medical advice.” This product says ages 3+ on it! After all of that, I looked up the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for each of the chemicals listed above. Some of them have really serious side effects like kidney failure, respiratory distress, loss of consciousness, eye injury/blindness and putting holes in the stomach or esophagus. I’m not sure how this product passed safety requirements for any age much less 3 year olds. I did have the sense that this product once dried out a little bit would be easier to work with and would behave much like Play-Doh though the texture would be more foam like and lighter. Still, not worth the effort. 0/5 would not recommend

Im giving it 3 starts because I love all the tools it comes with... but I did not like the putty stuff it came with... you couldn't use the molds on it.. it kept sticking and I had to pull it out with my fingers and it and it would ruin it anyway. Thankfully my kids also got play dough for Christmas so all the molds worked for that which was great because my daughter loves the baking sheet lol. She liked stacking the shapes on them! I'd recommend the product but tell them to buy playdough on the side. (Sucks to say but that's how I feel) change out the putty and it would be a great product!

Horrible clay / more like glue. Got everywhere and couldn’t get it off. Took hours to remove from surface and tools. The purple had dye that wasn’t even mixed in. Huge waste of money.

Horrible, the clay is not clay at all seems more like foam, which would be great but it’s so sticky it sticks to all the tools. Very upset I spent what I did. Would not purchase another FAO Schwartz product again. All their products have been a big disappointment this Christmas.

This is a waste of money. The oven is the box you see. My grand threw it in the garbage thinking it was the box. I wish I knew that. Do t waste your money. All this money for a few pails of play dough.

Impossible to play with! the play dough is very sticky, you can't even put it back in its pot. Impossible to model, it sticks to the wood, the oven, the utensils. very disappointing!!!!

Dislike sticky and messy

Disappointed! The clay is very dry and hard. The one jar that wasn’t was too sticky and would not come out the jar. Box didn’t hold Up either. For the price it’s cheaply made.

The clay is not clay! Lots of air pockets! Very foam like and not able to use!! The rest of the set is nice but my children were very disappointed!
