Q: Can they be used to trim back large hydrangea plants outside?
submitted by Sandy - 5 months ago
A: The P341 Bypass Pruners are a great choice for trimming back most hydrangea stems, especially green or semi-woody growth. They handle branches up to about ¾" thick with clean, plant‑friendly cuts.
That said, if your hydrangea has older, woody canes that look like they’ve been lifting weights all winter, you’ll want to switch to loppers for those.

A: Yes, but only branches up to about 5/8" diameter and preferably only live branches.

Q: can i use it to trim the stems from flowers before putting them in a vase
submitted by prettyflowers - 2 years ago
A: Thank you for contacting Fiskars. This pruner can cut small branches, so it should have no issue cutting flower stems.

Q: Does this have a spring to open it after you squeeze it closed?
This product is favored by many guests for its lightweight design and effectiveness in pruning tasks, making it ideal for smaller hands and indoor plants. While some guests appreciate its sharpness and ability to cut through thick branches, others have encountered issues with the locking mechanism and blade performance. Overall, it serves well for light yard work and trimming, but some design flaws have been noted.

Light and durable
Professional gardener and these are the only small pruners I use. Great for smaller hands. And they cut everything from thick branches to tiny stems.

Figer pincher
Looks great but a real finger pincher. The lock mechanism is set up for a perfect pinch.

Does the job
Picked these up yesterday to trim my indoor fiddle leaf fig tree and I was able to snip a 1 inch+ branch effortlessly!
1 reply from FiskarsProductExpert team - 7 months ago
Thanks for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear the P341 Bypass Pruner handled that 1"+ fiddle leaf fig branch so easily. These pruners are designed to deliver clean, powerful cuts with minimal effort, especially on live, green growth - so it’s great to know they performed just the way you needed.

Major design flaw
I generally love Fiskars products and splurged last year to get myself a new set of pruners. However, this set has a major design flaw and have been generally unusable for me since my purchase. The small clip that keeps pruners closed was lost the first time my husband used them. This means that the pruners are always in an open position and now do not easily fit in pockets. Sadly, I am now using my old, not so great pair (the ones I had intended to replace) because these are not practical without being able to close them.

dull out of the box
Brand new clippers not working. Tried to trim shrubs this morning and the pruner just bent the leaves but did not cut them. Disappointed as I've always used this brand. My 5 year old clippers did a better job!

Sorry to hear that your new Fiskars P341 Bypass Pruner isn't performing as expected. That’s certainly not the experience we want you to have. It could be a manufacturing issue or something with the blade alignment. If you haven’t already, we recommend contacting customer service for assistance, or you could try gently adjusting the blades: https://www.fiskars.com/en-us/customer-service/warranties

These are amazing
We’ve got an oak tree out front that drops thousands of acorns every year and the unfortunate result is little baby oak trees all over the garden beds. I didn’t have time to dig them up but they were so unsightly. These shears cut through half in thick trunk like it was nothing, I wish I had bought these sooner

Get on woth a different locking mechanism
Not sure how people are rating this that high or maybe mine is broken. The locking mechanism is completely useless, difficult and almost impossible to engage.

Blades get stuck closed
During the first use, after just a few cuts, the blades began to stick together upon closing instead of springing back open. So I had to manually open them after every cut. Will have to toss these and find a new pair.

Good at cutting, not securing
I don’t like the closure on these. The little plastic piece gets stuck sometimes and makes it hard to lock and secure. Sometimes they pop open because they aren’t secured properly.

Good!
They are good. Blades get sticky from plants which makes them hard to use at times but overall, they are great quality and work very well.

Great Prunder
This is a smaller size pruner and very sharp! Perfect for my baby shrubs! Fiskars makes awesome gardening tools.
