A: LBJB is not entirely correct - you can be contagious if you have a negative rapid antigen test. Here's a quote from Emily Landon, infectious disease expert and executive medical director for infection prevention and control at University of Chicago Medicine "Rapid antigen tests detect COVID-19 when people have a higher amount of virus particles in their system and are more contagious. But a negative antigen test doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t contagious. If someone has COVID-19, but hasn’t yet reached the test’s threshold of viral particles, they may still test negative with an antigen test but positive on a PCR test. That’s why I tell people they should trust a positive antigen test, but be more skeptical about a negative one." And here is her advice on how to use the test: "...if you have symptoms and you test negative, you should not rule out COVID-19 just yet. In this case, we recommend getting a more sensitive PCR test. If you can’t get in for a PCR test quickly, it’s recommended to repeat the antigen test the following day, being sure to isolate until you get your PCR test and results.... A: The test kits that I bought in mid-Dec 2021 from another source have an Oct 2022 date and I read that these tests were given emergency use approval by the FDA in Oct 2021, so I'm guessing that the shelf life is a year after the manufacturing date.

A: This is an extremely accurate test, MS (despite working in healthcare, a statement that means nothing) doesn't understand how these tests work and is spreading inaccurate information. Basically, rapid antigen tests tell you whether or not you are contagious, NOT necessarily that you do or do not have COVID. If the test is positive, you have COVID and you are contagious (very slight false chance of a false positive). If you test negative you MIGHT have COVID, but you are probably not contagious. It is normal to have symptoms for a day or two before you show as positive on these tests, especially if you are vaccinated (early symptoms are immune response, ie, the vaccine working, not active virus), but you aren't spreading it until you show positive. PCR tests work entirely differently and are useless as diagnostic tools since they don't tell you anything about active infection, just that you have COVID genetic material in your system.

A: Search the name of the test (flowflex) and FDA and you'll see a press release about it being approved. All of them work similarly -- you need to use more than one, and if you get a negative it doesn't mean you don't have the virus and in a couple days you might get a positive test. If you get a positive, it very likely means you have the virus.

A: I bought the test, it gave a false positive.

A: Actually, JR is correct. Antigen tests, which this test falls under, are more likely to generate false negative results, especially when someone doesn’t have symptoms. Multiple tests—over several days—improves the chance of catching asymptomatic infections because each test's sensitivity varies depending on where someone is in the course of their infection. Ideally/if possible, a person who thinks they might be infected or was in close contact with someone who is infected should get tested with an NAAT/PCR test after doing an antigen one at home or getting one at a testing site. It takes longer to get results, but the NAAT/PCR tests are the most accurate tests available. *For what its worth, I work in the healthcare field.
