Description

The On/Off Cync Smart Plug makes any lamp or device that plugs into a wall outlet smart. The built-in WiFi bridge adds out-of-home control for your lighting and devices and voice control when paired with a voice assistant. Worked great! Until it didn't. We can't tell why, but after a few months of use it no longer turns off and on at the right time. We've tried reconnecting to the wifi, deleting and recreating the routines, etc and nothing has fixed it. We'll wake up in the morning to see the heater still turned on when it should have turned off at midnight, for example. Hopefully we can find a better option!

I have smart bulbs that work well with the Cync app, but I couldn't get this plug to work on my string lights. I did 3 factory resets and it still wouldn't start on the schedule I created. It did turn off, but I had to manually turn them on every day.

This product is unreliable. It doesn't consistently turn on at the scheduled time, it doesn't consistently turn off at the scheduled time, and it is randomly unreachable through the app. I have smart bulbs, security cams and other home automations from various companies and all are infinitely more reliable than this plug.

Before I upgraded the lights on my aquarium I only had stock lights that weren’t Bluetooth at all. By using this plug in I was able to set my lights on a schedule through my phone! Super easy.

Thought I would cut the transit time and buy this instead of the typical smart plug. I’m tech savvy and figured I could work around other reviewers issues. Boy, was I wrong! App is junk and required for any other interface. (Google home, Alexa, etc. ) Took forever to get it to connect to WiFi, as others indicate. Finally got it setup, lost power due to storm, and now it won’t reconnect. GE needs to get the Cync app figured out or allow the device to connect directly to the preferred app. Save you time, money, and sanity and buy something else.

Product has a good weight. But it’s a garbage product. Followed the weak instructions on google home and the cync app only gets so far and then has a connection error. The google app will say its connected but never pops up in order to add the plug on. Ugh. I’d give it zero stars if I could.

App is NOT at all intuitive

I don't use the app much - only when we go on vacation - but it is SO not intuitive. It takes me forever to find where in the app to change the on/off times for the two plugs we have. I try clicking on "scenes" and then get lost in the app, then try clicking on rooms, and nowhere is there a place to change the on/off times. It should and could be so, so much simpler.

Nightmare setup, works ok if you get through that

Despite the GE website claims and written product instructions inside the box, this plug does not connect directly to Google home app. I tried upwards of 30 times on different days and different WiFi networks, with no success. Customer support offered no remedy. You'll have to download and use the Cync app to get the plug connected to your WiFi. This requires setup of a GE account, which took took 15+ hours for me to even achieve because the verification email needed to first log in is consistently delayed by several hours. After that saga, the plug was found by the Cync app relatively easily and you can then link your Cync account in the Google home app. Schedules for on/off can be configured in the Google app rather than having to do in Cync, fortunately. However, the indirect linking via Cync means that connection runs through the Cync servers which are unreliable (remember the verification email delay? that wasn't a one-off).

I purchased this on sale & specifically for the Christmas tree lights. It was simple to connect with the Google app but for some reason it disconnects itself. I’m able to use voice commands on my Google Home but via the Google app it usually shows “offline”. It’s good enough for the price and use for short term use but if you’re looking for something to use long term I’d try another brand.

Could not get it to connect. I went to the website to trouble shoot. In very fine print, it says it’s only compatible with 2.4 GHz internet. This was nowhere on the box or paper with directions. Waste of time.

Lack of functionality defeats the purpose of a smart plug. Consistently disconnects itself from the WiFi network so it’s rarely available to control remotely. The accompanying app only has the ability to set a schedule to turn the plug off, not on - again, completely defeats the purpose of a programmable smart plug.
